I heard rumours that there are graphic cards available for laptops and notebooks. I was wondering whether this was true since I quite like my gaming but am on the move quite alot and i cant really get decent quality on my laptop.
Does anyone know whether i can get them and how much would they cost? furthermore are they actually any good?
I have seen some1 selling a 32mb Geforce for the dell latitude laptop but i assume those are incompatible for different brand laptops.

There are powerful GPU's for laptops (unlike my 2mb shared w/audio Neomagic 256), but they're pretty much all proprietary, so your make and model needs one specially designed for it. Thus, people like me (Dell Inspiron 3500) are out of luck.

There are certain models of the Dell Inspiron with upgradeable cards.

The 8100/8000 is the most upgradeable. Choices include the ATI M4, Geforce 2 Go, and Radeon 7500. People are also expecting to be able to upgrade to the Geforce 4 Go.

I've heard the 4100 is upgradeable, but I don't know very much about it.

There are certain conditions that make certain upgrades impossible, for instance, if you have an 8000 with an SXGA+ LCD, you can't upgrade to a Radeon 7500.

I have an 8000 with a 16mb Geforce 2 Go and I'm considering the upgrade to the Radeon 7500.
