Graphics Card

I am looking to build a new computer and the budget is 600 bucks. What do you think would be the best graphics card in that price range for the entire computer. Thanks!

For about $100, you can score a 4850. If you're willing to buy used, you can probably score a 4890 for a bit more as people in the coming weeks will be offloading their video cards for a shiny new 5800 or GTX 4x0 series card.

Well let's see..

550W PSU $70
AM3 mobo $80
Phenom II 550 or 625 $100
Case $50
Radeon 5770 $150
4GB DDR3 memory $100
500 GB hard drive $55
DVD drive $25

$630

so.. Radeon 5770 if you can stretch $30. If you can't, a Geforce GTS 250 for $110 or Radeon 4850 for $100.

This is all assuming he has a monitor of some type already.

This Corsair 400W has enough amp on the 12v rail to power a single 5770 just fine @ $53.

Also, salvaging a DVD drive from an older PC is a quick & easy way to save a few bucks.

For cases, if looks don't matter this Rosewill is $30. Otherwise this Coolermaster is the best you'll do for $50 with a $10 mail-in rebate. Both cases have free shipping, on a case free shipping will save you a lot.

Edit
More cases Azza1 & Azza2, both $30 with a $20 mail-in rebate. I've never used them before & don't know of their rebate quality.

Cool good price on that Corsair. I agree 400W quality PSU is plenty for most normal systems, it's just hard to push it when everyone wants 600W.

I also use a $20 case cause I really don't care about looks.. I'd run my PC out of a cardboard box but then I might spill soda on it and destroy my case 🙁

But yea if he has to get a monitor, keyboard and mouse then 5770 is gonna be too much.

Most people usually back me up when I recommend that PSU. If people have to ask for help with their rig then that PSU & a 5770 are all they usually need.

For cases I get Steel & usually do not spend over $50 unless it's an Antec that's on sale with a 400W+ PSU.
