Graphics card troubles

I have an Gigabyte 6600GT that I gave to my brother, along with an motherboard and processor. It all worked fine for me, but after he installed them, some strange things started happening:

1) In dxdiag, the direct3D tests, the direct3D 7 test works and the texture is fine, but the direct3D 8 and 9 both fail to render the texture, and all I see is a green box spinning.

2) In Command and Conquer Generals, the intro movie fails to render (we hear the sound) and the game menus don't render properly (either see nothing at all or just solid blocks for grey where the words should be).

3) He also says some videos don't play properly in media player, they also appear a strange colour of green.

Anyone got any ideas?

Core Rig:

Athlon XP 3000+
Asus A8V-X
1GHz PC2700 DDR
Gigabyte AGP 6600GT (GV-N66T128VP)

Cheers

Si

Perhaps he'll want to install his motherboard chipset drivers and reinstall the nvidia graphic drivers. Make sure he's updated his directX runtime prior to the driver install also.

It's also possible he has some old driver remnants from his prior card, particularly if it wasn't a Nvidia card. He may have to use a utility like Driver Cleaner to completely remove them before he can sucessfully install the nvidia drivers.

We've installed loads of new drivers and motherboard drivers. I'll do a full clean up tomorrow as well. The only other thing we can think is that he installed the OS from a work slip-streamed WinXP SP2 CD. I tried to reinstall directX, but I don't think the installer did much at all (I assume it thought it was up to date).

I'll try to scrub directX tomorrow and all the drivers (can't really be an old card, clean WinXP installation) and reinstall.

Any other ideas?

3) He also says some videos don't play properly in media player, they also appear a strange colour of green.

If he's using WMP9 for video playback, upgrading to WMP10+ will probably fix that particular issue if its not directly related to the DirectX issues. he's having.

I think the problem is directX related. Update:

Reinstalled winXP on a different, clean HDD. Installed the 4-in-1 drivers and Forceware 91.47.

All 3 direct3D tests succeed now. However, running Google Earth in directX mode doesn't render anything in the window. Also, the same problems occur in Command and Conquer Generals.

Thanks in advance!
