Graphics Card - NVidia reports 70C at idle : RivaTuner reports 70C at idle

Ok, I have 2 x evga 6800 graphics cards running in a Tsunami Thermaltake Case with 3 fans going.

I am running 75.90 drivers (I have also tried 71.89 drivers) and when I use NVidia tools to report the temp, it says about 70C when I'm at idle with an ambiet temp of 48C.

To verify, I installed RivaTuner and it says the exact same thing!

So, you would think this would be hot 70C = ~ 158F.

However, when I open up the case with computer running, I can place my hand all over the graphics card and its only warm.

I would believe if it were really 70C I couldn't touch it!!

Also, I can stress the system and my tools report 95C under load but I can still touch the cards all over for a couple of seconds.

What is going on? I don't think its a driver issue because 71.89 was supposed to fix the temp bug.

HELP!!!!

DaveyTn:

I know that you are newer here and are having many problems with your 6800GT's, but you are making way too many posts on the same problem.

Please try to have one or maybe two threads about the same problem.

Problem with making a new thread everytime, is that no other new users can easily find the solution that is provided when people answer your questions.

You can add more questions by editing your thread.

I'm not trying to be a prick, but you have a ton of posts on this same problem.

Sorry for all the posts - but this time I have more information that I didn't have before.... I guess I'm just looking for a fix to the problem...

The issue is probably that the heatsink isn't soaking the heat up fast enough, so the heatsink only gets moderatley warm but the chip stays hot.

Sollution: Get a better cooler, or venthilation

It looks like there is no fix for your problem right now.

It seems that the eVGA cards you have don't read the tempature right. Just use your case fans, and don't overclock them until eVGA releases a fix. Your cards will be fine as long as they do not crash out of games.

Your cards aren't running at that temp, they are just reporting they are.

Yes - They basically said that if I could touch the graphics cards at idle (mine reporting 70C) - then it probably wasn't running at 70C.
