remembering the classic ATI 9800, which was re-sold as
a "FireGL" card for about a thousand bucks - i had one
in my Xeon workstation in 2002-2003.

looking at the card naming - 7600, 7800, 7900,
8600, 8800, i thought, it'll probably come full
circle. & nVidia will name one of their cards
the 9800.

unless they decide to skip the "9XXX" numbers
and go to some other numbering/naming system.

Geforce 7200
Radeon 7200

Radeon 8500.
Geforce 8500

Already gone the full circle with overlapping names.

Is it just me or is this topic summary misleading? I expected to come in here and see support for Q1, 2008 release. Although we did hear rumors that we can expect something in March/April, that pretty much borderlines Q2, 2008. In any event... I am now a bit upset, because there is no new information. :frown:

QFT. Good post.

Naming generally isn't exclusive. Have I missed it where companies are powerful enough to patent and copyright numbers now?

Not only is it mis-leading, but this topic has been covered ad nauseam already.
