graphics card cooling help needed

I have an old Geforce 3d Prophet and the cooling fan fell apart on me. I'm thinking of buying a new rig in a few months time but for now I need to fix this card so I can use my ocmputer. I think I can slavage the old cooling fan and still use it, but the thermal paste between the heat sink and GPU is dried and cracking. I just wanted to know what type of thermal compound I should buy to replace the old one and if I cannot use the old fan where can I get a new one from? Also how do I go about cleaning the old compound, I read somewhere I can use cotton swabs with some propyl alcohol. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks in advance.

You can use isopropyl, but I highly reccomend trying to put a new fan on the old heatsink. Either that, or buying a blue orb, they run about 10$ online.
