My father in law finally got tired of the terrible image quality on his monitor, apparently an incompatibility with the S3 graphics core. His PC has a Pentium D and (I think) an ASUS P5VD2-MX motherboard. I'd like to buy a discrete graphics card (cheapest, just to get a decent 2D image), but wondering about compatibility. I was thinking of buying a GeForce 8400GS card. Anyone know if that would be compatible? Thanks.

Any cheap PCI-E card should work. An 8400GS should be fine, I have a 7300 GS in my Dell at work.

Yea that chipset should work with any PCIe video card.

Just go to newegg and serach for cards with rebates and get the newwest one that is $15 or less AR

Update the BIOS to the newwest of course.

^ Yes, it does. He linked to the motherboard that he has and it has PCI-E.

Thanks, everyone. Sounds like it's safe to order this card.
