graphics card and video card question?

is thre a diff between graphics card and video card? OR are they same?
if so, what graphics/video card is required to play MTS/AVCHD format files?

I mean play the MTS/AVCHD files without any jittery. I'm not worried on which player to use (VLC does the job), but the question is more of what card is needed? do I really need a graphics/video card? if so what should I look for NVIDIA ? which one?

GTX550 should do the job for around $100 and you get some OK gaming.
