I'm looking for an affordable graphics box (upgrade or new) that does't send me to the cleaners. I currently use a dual xeon 3.0, 256 AGP, 2gig RAM, w/533 FSB with two raptors raided. I also have an old PIII Dual 1000. is it time to upgrade the xeon and send the PIII to become my hard drive storage unit? Anyone have some good buildout specs?

So, you want suggestions for a new videocard? Tell us the current card you have, and what type of games/titles you play, and we can help you. :)

I've replaced my old Win 2000 graphic workstation just recently with a new AMD workstation. This could be a start. My rig cost $1500 to build and you could go up whatever. My recommendation is to wait at least until all the "new stuff" is out in a month or two. This should give you more options to choose from and maybe get some great deals.
The video card was one of my great acquisitions for under $170 off eBay, as a new system pull. You can do better. Good building.

Wow helpful people here so far :p

Are you looking to build yourself or buy a pre-built setup? IF I had to build a Dual rig right now for Adobe and 3DS, I'd go for:

ASUS K8N-DL (Or nice Tyan board depending on your budget) + two Dual Core Opteron 275s or 280s (Or Dual Single Core Opteron 252's and above)
4GB RAM at least
And Graphics card that all depends. I'm not sure if you are a workstation card user (FireGL or Quadro) or a consumer card user.... But for a workstation, I'd get the best Quadro card I could afford, or either an ATI X1900 Series card or GF 7900 series.

Or if you can stand to wait a couple months, it looks like Intels Woodcrest Xeons could rain on Opterons parade. Regardless, once Woodcrest comes out Prices on Opterons are probably going to drop anyway if you still want to go the AMD route.
