graphical bug in BC2 please help

Hey all

I just upgraded to an AMD quad system from my intel core 2 duo today. I installed my ati drivers and BC2 and got a directx error, I updated Directx and everything ran fine for about an hour. Then all the sudden I started getting this black bar across my screen when I'd equip the Gol Sniper Magnum. Then the tank textures turned to solid black when they go into a shaded area. What is going on here? I'm fed up, I tried reinstalling ati drivers, reinstalled the game, and even reformated. Still the problem remains. My system is below and a picture. I'd like the emphasis that this didn't start happening until I upgraded my cpu/motherboard/and ram but I doubt that any of that could be a problem. It seems like a graphics or driver problem, has anyone else had this bug? If anyone can help please speak up.

AMD X4 955 3.2GHZ
790x AMD motherboard
4GB DDR3 1333
ATI 4870 512MB using catalyst 10-2
Windows 7 64 bit

have you tried DX9?

have a 4870, Cat 10.2 and haven't seen that black bar yet and no issues with tank textures.

Conversly, i've read of graphic issues with DX9 in the retail version of BFBC2, Are you forcing DX9 in your BFBC2 settings? (Since your old C2D system needed some extra "oomph"?)

no i'm not forcing dx9 on, i kept this latest windows install simple so i could properly diagnose this. Just installed windows, windows update, 10.2 drivers, installed the game and updated. I keep getting these errors with it forcing me to reinstall now. Last night i tried to open the game again and it said the files were corrupted and i had to reinstall...

its an ATI glitch.

I get it all the time.. been getting more or if when i xfire.

You get used to it over time, and it doesnt bother you as much.

Which is why i want to get my ass off ATI.

I haven't experienced the type of rendering error OP states with a 4870 running Cat 10.2 and DX9. although I have experienced other rendering errors. some due to running DX9 (not being able to see through the stationary MG window) and others I'm not so sure whether they are due to drivers, the BC2 engine, or DX9.

ive been plauged by it on a HD4870X2 on xfire.

I haven't seen anything like that on my 5770... Maybe try different driver like 10.1 10.2 10.3 or something? Try forcing DX9.

it could be that my card has died. The 4870 was used when I bought it and I've had it for about a year. Maybe it's time to upgrade it. I'm going to try my nephew's nvidia 8800gt and see if the problem still occurs. This is new for me too and I haven't heard anything about it. But if it's my new cpu/mobo/or ram thats the problem I want to know about it so I can RMA them.

Frankly I wish I had stuck with my e7400 and ud3r board cause I had it running so nice. Oh well live and learn, i'll check back in when I get the graphics card installed.

EDIT Just tried my 8800gt nvidia card in there and still same problem, I also reinstalled the 4870 and rolled back the driver to version 9 still no dice. Maybe it's a problem with the windows 7 system files. I'll try using DBAN to completely wipe the drive tonight and reformat after I try the different driver. I don't see how my cpu/mobo/or ram could be the problem. I'm running memtest 4.0 now so I'll see if thats the problem.

The picture caption says it's the GOL with 4x scope and red dot sight that causes it.

It's the game...you can move on with your life now.

oh that the maker! I was about to go stark raving mad over this sillyness! Thanks so much for linking me to that post, at least now I know it's EA's problem and not mine. It does put a bitter taste in my mouth to know that I payed $50 for a game that has more bugs than the beta.

So that's why I couldn't use those darn stationary MGs...I thought I was just supposed to shoot blindly...

i don't think it's a graphical problem really, it's a problem with the game. The reason why some people get it and other don't is unknown at this point as far as I can tell. I didn't have this problem with my e7400 and UD3R setup. But when I switched to the AMD quad this started happening, I was using the same graphics card. It might have something to do with certain hardware configurations that just mess the game up somehow. Anyhow I hope they come out with a patch to fix all this.

I actually did try the gol sniper magnum without the red dot or the acog and it works fine, no black bar. I don't even use the acog or the red dot on my sniper rifles so it doesn't really matter to me. Just annoying is all

Don't blame ATI; if anything, its an error with the game, not ATI's fault. Just because it only shows up on ATI cards (i don't even know that that's true) doesn't mean that it's ATI's fault.

Strange that you can run xfire while running BFBC2.. My BFBC2 will crasy every time after "updating stats" if I have xfire running in the background. It doesn't matter whether I disable xfire for BFBC2 or not; it'll crash either way.

Actually I tried an nvidia 8800gt and I still had the same error. So it's not specifically an ATI problem for the graphical glitch. However there is a bug where ATI cards load games much much slower than nvidia cards. Only by about 15-20 seconds but still it gives nvidia owners a slight advantage.

Update Just to let you all know Bad Company 2 got a new update this afternoon, fixed the graphical bug I was having with the Gol Sniper/Acog among other issues. All I have to say is that it's about time!

I wonder if this explains why many times at the start of a round I have about 15-20 seconds or so to myself, allowing me to grab an ATV and capture a letter, and usually two before anyone is around.

ya that might be it, either the other players are running slower systems or ati cards. Even after the new patch my load times are the same.
