Hello everyone, I am a novice builder and I have had my first built computer for about 8 months now. It runs games fairly well in my opinion, but I feel like sometimes I am either pushing it too hard, or maybe I do not have some things set to run my games as smooth as they can be.

I would like some assistance in tweaking my computer to really get the most out of what I want from it. If anyone is willing to help, let em know what you need from me to start things off. I am good at maneuvering around my computer so you won't need to baby me through it. Anything I don't understand I will just ask for a bit more clarification. Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone who is willing to help me out.

Here are some of my specs

Splinter Cell Blacklist. Max Payne 3. The witcher 2. borderlands 2.

Max Payne 3 runs pretty decent and I believe I have maxed settings. borderlands 2 is so hit and miss for me, at times with physx off even, the game drops into the high 20 fps and low 30 fps. splinter cell is running allright but my target for most of these is to have a steady 60, which is hard for me to get close to, i seem to fluctuate a lot and its frustrating.

on some titles yeah, but it doesnt seem to have the desired effect.

I know that the target fps for geforce experience however is about 40-45 if i remember reading that correctly.
And my biggest problem is stability, i want to keep my games running at constant framerates with as few fluctuations as possible, but I am not sure if I have unrealistic expectations with this.

Regarding Bl2, it has some places which can cut your fps tremendously, caustic caverns come to mind.Do you play single or multi?

In multi a single 660 can't maintain ~60 fps unless you set for abysmal IQ.In single player though it maybe possbile save few places.IIRC Bl2 is very cpu dependent too, is your cpu overclocked?

Hmm, I see, well, its not a let down but it is nice to see that my rig is not necessarily the big issue.

Pardon me to crash between your conversation. But, I beleive that with that kind of configuration that you have. I am amazed at the low frames that you are talking about.
I have been tweaking computers for performance and usually I had even run COD4 with medium settings with 25 avg fps on 800*600 resolution on a saffire ati9600pro 256mb (released in 2004, supports only direct x9 not 9c, PS 2.0). It was funny to see it run with such a hardware. And yes I had a pentium 4 3.06Ghz HT. With 1GB(512*2) of DDR400 Ram.

Seriously, you are doing something wrong here. Default windows settings are done for everyone and not with your specific configuration in mind. Most, people don't realize that they could have 15-25% performance boost just by tweaking widows for your own configuration. And that's without over clocking.

After this with little commonsense you can improve those numbers even further. ;)

would you mind enlightening me with what I can do to help my setup out in windows?

Ok! There are 100's of settings that needs to be altered. And I can't mention them all here. But, these are some that would still boost and smoothen your performance by atleast 10-15%. Here's my quick guide for you.

Download MZ optimizer from here:
http://www.mztweak.com/mz7optimizer.html

Enable CPU ACCELERATOR and set it to start at windows logon. Enable asynchronous script, enable IRQ priority and system cache optimization. Also, enable ' foreground apps would have the best processor time' option in cpu optimization. Increase the worker threads according to your processor. For eg a value of 5 is recommended for a quad core processor. There are some other settings there that you can tinker with as well for more performance. If you don't understand something ask me here.

Once these are done. Download
Gamegain:
http://www.pgware.com/products/gamegain/

Try to get a cracked version from the torrent. As the free version is not boost your performance according to the full capability of your hardware.
Once this is done, disable your AA settings or set them to 2x max. These are the biggest fps succer in any game. Apart from that use some common sense and you would run anything at FPS you never imagined possible!

I don't think anyone tolerates piracy here.

Hey! Don't forget to leave a feed back.

I am not as rich as you people are. And I can't afford the newest hardware. My main system with pentium D 930, ati4650 agp, 2GB ram. Had been made by buying second hand parts. Forget about buying software(it doesn't mean I disrespect the developers. It's just that I can only support them when I would have the money). That's why I try to squeeze out the last bit of performance from the hardware without overclocking. And with time I have improved so much that now I can make any computer faster by 10-25% without upgrading the hardware.

This is not about being rich or not. Most of the time there are free and better alternatives.I am currently using Openoffice for my home pc because I don't need the feature set of the expensive ms office suite.
