Graphic design help...

Scarpozzi

Lifer
I'm trying to come up with a cartoon-like graphic for a telescoping baton. This is a project I'm doing for a friend, so it's not a school project or a business thing. Can anyone that's good with photoshop, fireworks, or a paint program help me out? I'm no artist, but this is what I've come up with. I'm trying to make it with a transparent background so it can overlay a website.

This is what I have so far...I just don't think it looks that good. The actual image I created was transparent background with a white border so it would show up with 2 colors when over a background. (White edges and a black center)Pic

Thanks to anyone that can help...

Yeah....I'm just lacking skills to make it look professional and neither I, nor my friend have a budget to pay a designer to do it or even buy decent software. (I might have an old copy of PhotoShop 3.x somewhere in my old cds.)

How come it's so blurry?

Also in photoshop, you can create a new project w/a transparent background. make sure you save it as a .gif to keep the transparency.

I was trying to go for a cartoon-like edge. It's a fade on the edges of the white border....I'm not partial to the design...just need an image of a baton that doesn't look like it was drawn by a 3rd grader in MS Paint.
