Anybody here have tried connecting graphic card video out to your TV. Well I can guess the picture quality you get from doing so.I currently own a MX440 64MB AGP card. I was not much into connecting it to a monitor or LCD. I wanted to save space in my home. This is what i did

AMD MP2000+ Dual processor Server
2GB DDR2100 memory
5.1 Creative Sound card
MX440 Nvidia 64MB with video out
Cordless keyboard & mouse.
Broadband connection.

To save space I wanted to connect it to my 29" TV. All I got was a blur picture. It didnt give you the sharpness of normal CRT/LCD. If manufacturer are not giving 100% into their video out features, then why bother have it?

Can someone tell me what card I should get to have a good quality picture.
Please also share your experiences.

thanks

you'll never get the same sharpness as CRT/LCD from TV
watching movie is fine, but other things.. it's so blur it hurts to watch.

thats cause your trying to have a 800*600 or 1024*768 picture displayed on a 640*480 screen. Normal TVs only support 640*480. HDTVs haev 800*600 and plasma screens can display up to 1024*768. That is why the picture is distorted... put your pixel settings to the lowest settings and when browings the internet put the text size bigger and upsize all the font sizes for menu bars and icons. right click on desktop>properties>click appearance tab and then select(i think) its advanced and that pulls up all the colors/fonts/sizes for taskbar, start menu, icons and whatnot. thats what i did on my HTPC and although it takes up alot of screen space with the large fonts, its easier to read....

You do realize that standard NTSC / PAL screen resolution is quite low, don't you?

TV-out quality might be bad on that card, but you need a HD TV to display even 1024 x 768 accurately.

i s-video out to a tv from a 9700pro. games and movies are awesome. text is acceptable if a decent size font is used. i am very pleased with the quality of the picture overall.

When it comes to image quality, comparing a CRT monitor to a TV is like comparing a Ferrari Enzo to a Honda Civic.

Here's an analogy I always liked. Your video card is, relative to your standard definition TV, a super charged 8-cylinder engine, and you have placed it in a Yugo. Now if all you want to do is drive real slow (ie, watch standard definition TV formatted stuff), you'll be fine. But when you really want to crank it up , things are going to start to suck.

The answer here is to ditch the Yugo, buying a bigger engine is not going to be too helpful.

Edit: Also, IMHO, that money you spent on that "new" video card might have been better spent on a higher quality, older card. I still doubt the card is the problem, but you have more of a Hyundai "V6" kind of video card, still too much for a Yugo, but it could still be a problem. It's not so much the speed and features is that the MX series are value cards with a captial CHEAP.

Well, PAL tv's use 720x576 resolution. Add to that the fact that TVs are interlaced, and you get quite a fuzzy looking picture. The only thing that work well with TV out is DVD/DivX playback.
