Graph spam in threads - too much?

Does anyone else have issue with the somewhat frequent graph spam in some threads?
Often when people are trying to put their post across about the performance of card X vs card Y, then post a significant number of large images, which just results in massive amounts of scrolling for probably 99% of people who don't give a damn.

Then people QUOTE those posts, and leave the graphs intact, resulting in even more scrolling with zero additional contribution to threads.

Can we have some sort of control over the massive graph spam in threads?
Maybe limit things to one or two images, and link the rest, rather than having everything ishowing up inline in the threads?

Other forums have spoiler functions which can be used to hide images, I don't know if VB has this function, but I assume it might. Would it be possible for this to be enabled here if it does exist?

Does anyone else find it SERIOUSLY annoying to have massive posts of just graphs when one person is trying to prove their point to one other person, crapping up the thread?

I was considering reporting posts to see what the mods think, but then I thought maybe it would be better to guage the general opinion of the forum as a whole plus the mods, and see if other people had issues with it as well.

Not trying to call out specific users, this are just the most recent posts which illustrates the point:
http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=33245090&postcount=78 (lots of charts)
http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=33245075&postcount=77 (quoting some charts but unnecessarily)

This used to bother me, but then I started a rigorous workout training program for my scroll finger. Now I just mouse scroll through the graphs, no problem, don't even break a sweat.

It doesn't bother me, simply because all the graphs/pictures aren't full sized until you click the top bar anyway.

I actually like it when people post graphs and charts; I don't want to navigate away from the forums to view someone else's evidence for their claims. It's far more convenient for others to bring it to me. I don't like it when people needlessly quote the graphs and whatnot though.

I agree entirely- it's an absolute pain in the arse when I'm browsing on my phone.

I agree.

I'm either browsing this forum at work or on my phone (while at work) and it is a pain to scroll through charts especially when they quote charges being contested and post their own charts. I wish there was a proper spoiler tag that put stuff under a "Click here to see" wall.

LOL. My scroll wheel broke from too much scrolling through quoted images

I don't mind when it is posted originally, but for quoting it can be snipped out. I'd rather have the poster back up what they said with proof.

It'd be better if we had collapsing spoiler windows instead of highlighting.

Just so that it's noted, we are paying attention to this thread. I'm not sure any new rules will enacted (or if we'll do anything for that matter), but your comments are being seen.

While I occassionally find it annoying, I'm of the mindset that we don't need to create a rule for it. Limiting graphs somehow isn't going to improve the content of the forums. It's not going to reduce flames. I really don't see the overwhelming need to pass some type of legislation to control it.

I think that it's fine. In fact, I was going to quote a bunch of graphs as a joke until I saw that the law was watchin' us! ;)

Considering that most of the time lots of graphs are posted, it's when poster A disagrees wth poster B and feels the best way to express their argument is by posting 10 graphs showing for example one single game as benchmarked by 10 review sites, it might actually help.
And then Poster B ignores them all anyway.

Maybe you should stop complaining? This forum is for discussing, and graphs help explain your point in discussions/arguments.

BTW,

<----------------------Personal Forum Issues is over there. How is this thread in any way relevant to the discussion of graphics cards or video?

I'll be the one to decide whether a thread is appropriate for this forum or not, thank you very much

I'd rather have that than the unsubstantiated claims we see made all of the time.

A forum feature that hides pics/graphs until clicked on might be a good idea. At least then nobody is being censored. I just don't want more rules unless it improves the forums, somehow. I agreed, for example, with adding sources to thread titles so we know the likely accuracy of claims.

There's only a problem with graphs when the poster of those excessive graphs owns GTX 470's

Not sure why everyone is attacking the OP and making sarcastic remarks instead of explaining why his point is invalid.

I think graphs are great myself, but agree that it gets annoying when those graphs are needlessly quoted over and over again.

If there are 10 graphs and you have a point to make about one of them, you can just quote the one...

There is nothing wrong with giraffe spam imo.
lol, so much win

In response to the OP, it's more of a forum etiquette and specific poster problem than anything else. I'd much rather see people back up their claims then spout unsubstantiated nonsense, which is all too often the case. I think a spoiler/graph tag would be nice to win back some vertical real estate though.

I like the graphs, but IMHO they should be done in moderation. Not a dozen in a single post perhaps would be better. But I really have no trouble scrolling through them as I read.

Not sure how easy it is to implement, but I know other forums I frequent the spoiler tag creates a window inside the post.

I usually post any images I have to in the spoiler tag considering their sizes.

However, I do appreciate that this site auto-adjusts images (the ones it can) since on a phone or work PC with 800x600 resolution (I've petitioned for upgrades so many times) I find myself scroll in all directions trying to see what someone posted only to realize its a "U MAD BRO" image or something just as stupid haha.

It's really annoying on my Galaxy S2 but i don't really care on my PC. Some of the graphs are very informative and useful when aimed at the subject being discussed, others can be straight up tasteless.

Doesn't bother me. Maybe sometimes people could bother to remove them from their quotes I guess. We don't need the same graph 6 times on one page. Just use your best judgement when quoting.
