I just read my first article about the GB Motherboards due at the end of October. Am I interpreting the information correctly? Will the GB take your everyday DDR Ram and *nearly* double its potential? Or will the GB's specs require new types of Ram?

I ask because I might wait to purchase my MB until the end of October to take advantage of a DDR tech that will more readily unleash the potential of, and provide the necessary Memory Bandwidth for, the P4.

I have bukoo DDR now, that I wish to use in a future MB (pc2100).

I think they were targetting like High End workstations but I think a majority of people here treat their machines that way. It's supposed to come real close to Rambus 1066 memory maybe be faster. I believe it will only support DDR 2100. VIA and SIS are going to release a version supporting DDR 2700 shortly after but I'm not familar with their versions, Intels DDR 2700 (SPRINGDALE CHIPSET) has been given a Mid-2003 launch date. The only downside is that I believe you'll have to install memory in pairs in Granite Bay and they'll have to be the same size and type I believe. Watch DDR prices go up when that chipset is released....

So master Chen, are my assumptions correct then?

1.) Granite Bay running PC2100 memory will be (most likely) released this month?

2.) Granite Bay will (most likely) use my existing stock of 2 256 PC2100 DIMMs?

3.) Granite Bay will (most likely) result in a HUGE performance difference oppossed to using current MBs that will run PC2100.

4.) Granite Bays may require me to take out a second mortgage?

It will use PC2100... but the DIMMs must be identical.

It should offer a significant performance pop compared to the 845e @DDR200

Man, just when I am ready to pull the trigger on an 845G, I learn about the DX chipset.

Just when I am ready to purchase a DX, I learn about the 648 chipset

Just when I set my sights on a Shuttle 648 chipset MB, I heard about the GE/PE

After resolving to wait another week for the GE/PE, I learn about this Granite

When I decide to get a Ti4200, out comes the 9700 Pro....WITH 8X!!

Christ I've never waffled so much on making purchases before in all my life.

I Just want to be able to play Doom 3 next year at adaquate frame rates!!!:)

IF that is the case, why don't you just stick with what you have and build a new machine next year when Doom 3 is actually out?

Dollars to donuts, you won't be happy with whatever you build now then anyway. :p;):D

Could I wait? Probably. But I got permission from the wife for a purchase now, I could screw up between now and then.

Besides, Current Rig is a tempermental hp9694c (asus k7m oem with 800 Anthlon Processor)

I'm just like Ninepepper. I'm now waiting for Granite Bay and C-1 stepping P4 1.8/2.26 to come out. I've got a pair of Crucial PC2100 that I bought last year for a KT266 board, which I didn't buy after all, and have been sitting on the shelf since. In the meantime, I switched to Intel primarily because of heat concern and I'm now running Celeron 1.0A@1.27 quasi-passively (no fan on HS but HS is ducted to a 5-volted case fan). I'll keep this almost silent machine for work but am going to build one with much more power and, probably, a bit more noise.
