So cats die if they lose their tongues? 😕

Or did he like basically rip its throat out by its tongue? :Q
 
M'Mburugu had a machete in one hand but dropped that to thrust his fist down the leopard's mouth. He gradually managed to pull out the animal's tongue, leaving it in its death-throes.

Something I do no understand:

All well and good, but why drop the machete? Thrust fit, machete and all, down leopard's throat and save yourself significant mauling.
