Grandpa Boxes carvings

As many of you know, last month I said goodbye to my mother. While I was there, I tasked myself with documenting everything. On one wall in a living area near the front of her house, I found a mass of hand-carvings. These were made by my grandfather, Herman F. Rexilius, that is my father's father. He was quite the talented carver. I have a 100-year old Savage .22 that has the stock and slide hand-carved by him as well as a case for .22 bullets. You can see by the themes put down on wood the love that my grandfather held for this great land. Thought I would share with you guys something so personal and unique. Remember, these were each carved from a single piece of wood. They are dated early to mid 1930's.

I was named after a Roman emperor, so imagine dealing with that growing up. Rexilius is Prussian, a northern German state before unification. Rex = King in Latin, but I wish I was royalty.

I'd love to see the .22 rifle and box for shells you inherited if you have photos of them. Love and wisdom are the most precious gifts we can leave behind, but it's nice to have tangible items you can hold and look at to tie that memory and love to.
