Well, my grandmother passed away today. She has had alzheimer's for awhile, and she's finally free of it.

RIP.

*Sigh* My grandma currently has moderate Alzheimer's as well. She's in her early 80's and has had it for about 6ish years. Your thread just makes the whole situation more real 'cause often times I can get myself to forget about it. I'm sorry for your loss, but you and I both know she wasn't who she used to be and that this is for the best. :(

That's the worst. I had an uncle with that. From watching him, I don't think I'd want to spend years letting it take me.

I'm sorry for your loss. I just lost my grandfather on Jan 26th, it's hard and it hurts a lot, but it's a part of life. At least your grandma's no longer suffering.

It might sound sick to those who havent had family stricken down by alzheimers, but the passing of someone severely affected by it is as much relief as sadness. It breaks your heart to see someone who was once so alert and energetic having to suffer in the shell of their former selves.

I'm sorry bud, my grandmother passed away a year ago from alzheimers. I hadn't seen her in years and when I went to say bye to her she looked like a completely different person. She died that night after everyone said their good-byes :(

Be happy though because she is a lot better off now :)

It's not really a shock, actually. My family has been waiting for this a long time, since she's had it so long. It's a relief, in a way. It's just odd, since now I'm going through all the times I've seen her in the past. My mom (her daughter) is probably taking it the hardest, even though she has wanted it to happen.

Sorry man. My grandmother also passed from Alzheimer's. What a terrible disease and a horrible way to go, imo.
