insurance gave her 9k.

What's a RELIABLE used car for 9k? Her camry gave her quite a bit of trouble.. timing belt broke, tranny problems.. electrical issues (radio worked for the first month, service people would replace it, and ultimately everyone gave up, inc. grandma cause she needed the car back).
I know camrys are as reliable as it gets... but still.. bleh.

fscking grow up

How the heck do you have that many problems with a camry? Did you buy it new, or used?

Timing belt broke? Did you replace it at the recommended 60k?

Some people love to buy old used cars from grannies that only drive the car to church on sunday, but I avoid it like the plague because some of em don't know wtf an oil change and such is.

She bought it brand new and got ABSOLUTELY raped on the price by the dealer.

Oil was changed every 3 months on the dot. She didn't put enough miles on it to do it every 3k miles. It had (I think) 55k on it when it got totalled, so no. It wasn't replaced at 60k. It was replaced at around 30k when it broke.

She was meticulous about maintainance - she loved going to the dealer and went whenever possible.

my mom had a 1194/1195 camry and it had a bunch of issues as well
transmission went out twice
first time was <60k miles

i vowed to never get a toyota again

At least 2002 Camary should be OK if she liked Camry's I was really impress with the cush ride when I took my mother test driving she just had a lemon was all.
It happens
Chev Malibus are a reliable NA choice if she likes those in cars of the same class.
Other than that the Accord but most older folks don't like the stiffer ride.
