Grandma tasered

CNN Has the Video, but I suck at linking the CNN videos.

FRANKLIN -- A 68-year old Ohio great grandmother is suing after she was Tasered several times by police.

Surveillance video shows Beverly Kidwell being Tasered by a Franklin, Ohio police officer.

She says she was in the police lobby waiting to talk to an officer, but decided to leave because it was taking so long.

Kidwell says that's when an officer came out and told her she couldn't leave, then he Tasered her five times.

"I thought he was going to kill me ... and then the next thing, he shot me again and he kept saying all the time, 'get up, get up' and I couldn't ... it paralyzes your body," Kidwell said.

The police are not commenting on the story, but according to the police report, Kidwell hit her granddaughter and was being arrested.

The officer says she resisted and that's why she was Tasered.

I need more information first, but if she did in fact get arrested, and then tried to leave, she most definitely deserved it. Otherwise it's an outrage.

So no one cares that a little ole granny got zapped a bunch of times by a cop?

I'll care when an article comes out that's got more information than that hack-job of a news site.

Arresting a 68 year old woman for hitting her granddaughter for acting out...I'd say the police probably shouldn't have been excersizing their power in the first place. And tasering a 68 year old woman? I'm sure she couldn't have put up enough of a fight to be such a danger that the 30something, in shape cop needed to resort to such a tool

While a cop could handle her, if she resists while be detained or cuffed, there is a greater chance of her injuring herself or an officer (opens them up to what would probably be an even greater lawsuit than this), versus if she is subdued (err incapacitated I should say).

Yup lawsuits are not good.

Eh, sorry, I missed the right to not be tasered. Care to point it out?

Giving the officers the benifet of the doubt, I'll assume she had done more damage than just hitting her granddaughter for there to be a police report. Although I didn't watch the video, I'm hoping she resisted or perhaps even hit the officer before he tasered her. Othewise, they should have tried just grabbing her first.

I think an excessive force lawsuit is worse, and for a 68 year olf woman, an officer with two strong arms is certainly enough to subdue her.

Wow. Good thing in a few weeks you'll have that new computer to keep you out of society. With any luck you'll never breed.

Yahoo affiliate

well that story really does not give us any more real information.

He wanted something not from CNN, that's from a local affiliate.

I watched the video on CNN.com. If that's the whole video, this is my opinion:

The officer needs to be fired. Immediately. It's a clear cut case of excessive force. The video shows the lady sitting down, and then getting tasered. Didn't even show her resisting. I hope the lady wins the lawsuit.

However, I would absolutely like to see th beginning of the video. I believe there may be some crafty editing that was done to make it look like the grandmother wasn't resisting at all. Notice how the video only starts when the taser is already brandished.

New American Century by KMFDM
Count your blessings
Walk the line
Don't move too fast
Or fall behind
There are rules you must obey
They get re-written by the day
Don't do this - don't say that
Your every move is logged and tracked
By the all oppressive eye
Spy satellites in friendly skies

The new american century
Has only just begun
No one exempt from the tragedy
Counterattack start pushing back

Fight the power
That chokes your speech
Fight the power
That makes you bleed
Fight the power
That propogates lies
To keep you weak
Keep you in line
Fight the power that reigns you in
Divides and conquers
Defines your sin
Fight the power
For one and all
Before the power swallows us whole

No one dares to say a word
Our panic drives all human herds
In the land where cash is king
Our silence bought and sold for free
The future's banging on our door
When real I.D. will be the law
Love thy neighbor and turn him in
It's call patriotism

The world is watching in disbelief
Chanting shame on you
How can you stand by so quietly
Letting them rape your liberties

You can't be bothered or concerned
You see no reason for alarm
Prejudice, religion hate
Usher in new mandate
Absolute and resolved
One nation under one god
Lack of interest has its price
As we're stripped of all our rights

Those who cannot learn from history
Are doomed to repeat it!

Actually, I wanted something not from the link he posted, which is some crappy local news website with poor journalism from the looks of it.

Yeah, I have to agree after watching the video as well. That was ridiculous.

Pretty much what I was thinking. Just sitting there not doing anything and then suddenly zap!

Ok, I'm exaggerating a bit. After watching the video on CNN though, I think it was way too excessive. It's not like she was lunging at him or anything.

Ok I watched the footage. That's wrong.

But I couldn't help laughing for some reason.

I guess "non-lethal" means you can use it whenever you feel like it.

The woman is a great grandmother and had a fight with her adult granddaughter! Besides, look at the size of the cop -- like he couldn't have just restrained her. Someone is gettin fired!

The Franklin Police Department won't say why the lieutenant used his taser. But, Kidwell says she was in the police station's lobby, waiting for an officer to talk about a family fight that she had with her adult granddaughter.
