Grandfathers old shotgun

It says RANGER on the side, and 30 inch. It has a wooden stock, as well as a wooden hand grip on the barrel. It is one of those ones that has a crack barrel design with a manual pull hammer on top. Where abouts would I find a serial number to find out information on this firearm?

oh. Hmm, any other particular way to find out about it. Is RANGER a brand name, or a winchester make....that is all I have gathered so far.

Are there any other markings on the barrel? There should be something stamped into the barrel such as what caliber and the model number.

Many old shotguns do not have serial numbers as hevnst stated.

Is it a single or double barrel? I guess if it has a hammer it is probably a single barrel. My guess is that it's not worth much but you never know.

somwhere on the barrel or near the chamber should have some kind of marking, like model number. as others said, some really old guns don't have serial numbers.

Man, is no one gonna help this guy?!?!?!

You need to load it, look down the barrel, then pull the trigger. The resulting flash of light within the barrel will illuminate the S/N and you can look it up.

You could have at least deleted some of the spaces instead of ruining the whole damn thread.

apparently sear made or at least sold a "ranger" shotgun back in the 1930s.

Sears Ranger Shotgun

i bet thats it. it has the hammer on the top like you said. see 2nd picture on that page.

some more info: "Eastern Arms Co. was a trade name used by Sears Roebuck. The guns were manufactured by Meriden Firearms, J. Stevens Arms, and others" - found that on another site.

Hey guys sorry for the slow reply. And pontifex, I think you found it!! On that page, the second picture down, top gun. It has the exact same plastic stock, hammer and release for the barrel. Holypoop. Ironically i lent my digi cam to my girlfriend for her graphic design homework. Hopefully I can get it back tomorrow to put some pics up. That one I mentioned looks very close I believe. I do not have the gun right here beside me, but that looks like it for sure.

Very cool - first image in that link, lower right corner, Winchester Model 12
My dad has one (12GA) passed down to him by his grandfather, my brother and I both have 16GA model 12's Very nice gun, didn't know they were sold out of the Sears catalog. $45 was a pretty good chunk of change back in 1933
