so my mom called me earlier and told me the unfortunate news that my grandfather went to the doctor and was diagnosed with skin cancer yesterday. :(

they still don't know the severity of it and whether it has spread to other parts of the body. i'm waiting for my mom to find out more and thus me. i'm hoping it's not severe :(

he is my last remaining grand parent. he's my mothers father. on my dad's side, my grandfather passed away well before i was born and my grandmother passed when i was quite young.

my maternal grandmother passed away just two summers ago in 2006 from cancer as well.

i have spring break starting this weekend. i'm definitely going to cancel all plans and go down and visit him even it's only for a few days. he doesn't live far, i go to school in Winston-Salem, NC and he lives in North Myrtle Beach.

That sux. Skin cancer can be very nasty stuff...much worse than most people realize.
Hopefully they caught it before it spread.

it could easily be early stage. i hope the tests show that.

he'll so appreciate that you visited him. i canceled college spring break plans to go see my grandfather after he had a heart attack. i know he appreciated it, but he was surprised i was there since he didn't think his heart attack was that big of a deal.

keep us posted!

I had a cousin who lived in roughly the same area that passed from Melanoma.
Everyone should be aware of the symptoms and get suspicious lumps or moles looked at.
Early detection and treatment can save you.
Prayers to you, OP and your family.

If they caught it early he should be alright.
It's bummer when they tell you about it though, ruined my whole day.
