For those of you who have played GTA: Vice City, what do you think of it? How does it compare to GTA III? Is it truly all new, or is it just a modified version of GTA III? Thanks for the info!

To be blunt, it rocks. You can drive motorcycles, which is snazzy, you can buy multiple houses, did I mention motorcycles? They rock. Fly helicopters... I haven't gotten to fly the plane yet though. Rar!

The cops seem to be way less lenient when you steal a car. usually they grab the door and it takes them a bit to drag you out (in GTA3) this time, they touch the car and you're busted. It pisses me off :)

I've yet to get to 6 stars, I'm a pansy w/o armor cheats ;) 5 stars brings the FBI, they drive big Suburbans. They still have the humvee (WHEE!)

It's worth the $57 I paid for it, even though I've been madly studying and writing speeches and finishing homework in the past week.

For the 300,000^99 time, it is NOT announced for the PC and there is no pc version. It's ps2 exclusive right now.

In all effects, it's a totally new game that plays like GTA3, not an expansion pack. There seems to be a lot more missions, and the city is huge. There's more weapons, cars, and radio stations playing 80's music.

The cops ARE tougher in this game, although they don't seem as fast in their cars. I've gotten going top speed with 3 stars and the cops are usually a bit behind me (instead of right ontop of me ramming my car). They will lay down spike strips to stop your car at roadblocks too. Big change is the way the pay-and-spray affects your wanted level. When you use it, your wanted level is "suspended". If you break ANY law (ie, hit another car, pull out the chainsaw, etc) in front of a cop while the wanted level is suspended, boom, it's back in full force. So drive carefully for that 30 seconds or so after you leave the pay and spray.

I must admit that I bought a PS2 solely for GTAIII before GTAIII was released for the PC. I think it was definitely worth the money!

Well, I was finally able to find a copy of GTA: Vice City, and I have to say that I think that it is even more fun than GTA3. Definitely worth the money!

maybe i'm the odd man out, but i wasn't that impressed with VC. Sure, GTA III was great, but there wasn't much improved for VC. A few more weapons, a couple motorcycles and helicoptors to supplement the SAME cars (with few exceptions). many missions seem to be an excercise in defeating the sloppy 1st person shooting and/or walking/running rather than defeating a challenging external obstacle. i liked how GTAIII gradually opened up the city and new cars for you, but VC starts with pretty much everything available. the fun of discovery seems much lower. regardless of rockstars claim that vice city is almost 2x as big as liberty city, vice city FEELS smaller (to me). i rented the game and beat it in three days (just over 20 hours of playing time). i wanted a bit more than that. i'm now have an 80% finished rating with just over 30 hours of playing time. on the positice side, ray liotta does a great job voicing the main character, jumping motorcycles on rooftops is fun, and having more save points is nice.

Not a huge fan of GTA overall after playing for a bit, so I doubt I'll like Vice City. :p

I wasn't impressed with Vice either.

This game is the best showcase of the limitations of the PS2. Crappy textures and long load times. I'll go as far as saying that Vice actually looks worse than GTA3 on the PS2(and yes, thats with trails turned off). The so called graphics overhaul is a bunch of new (and crappy looking) textures that don't really help the game. GTA3 had beauty in simplicity.

The story is really nothing to talk about. At least in GTA3, they didn't make it so drawn out. Watching some of the cut scenes in Vice is rather painful at times. Who cares that you're missing drug money? Let me go kill people!

The controls are worse IMO. GTA3 had a deadzone that was very defined. Vice's controls are jumpy and to a fault, responsive. It still feels very arcade like, but GTA3 had it down to science.

Motorcycles, Helicopters, and Planes are about the only thing worth mentioning on the vehicle side. All the cars feel almost exactly the same except for their top speed.

I honestly can't understand why people are going nuts for this game (espically since I work at a freaking gamestore). I guess if all you have is a PS2, then playing GTA is the center of your gaming experience. I'll stick to playing with the Xbox Live Beta and Age of Mythology.

If you like Vice, more power to ya. There are much better rehashs being sold this year. :)

Does this one have a better progression.

GTA# went from easy to less easy to medium to FVCKING IMPOSSIBLE atteh end.

Please tell me GTA4 doesn't do this.

I've been playing the game and can't get enough. Right from the start - the changes over GTA3 are evident. The (re)addition of motorcycles almost makes the game worth it alone IMO. The missions are great, and the game gives you plenty of leeway to attack them in your own method. The new weapons are great and the interaction between passer-bys rock. I like the little side missions that exist, making the gaming experiece different for each person. My brother had the game since launch day and hadn't even opened the entire city as of last night. He chose to mess around on the initial island the entire time, loving it in the process. The cop AI makes the game tougher, and the missions I've played so far are great. Tough - but great. I don't prefer games that are terribly easy, nor terribly hard - this falls right in between. Flying a helicopter is amazingly fun; motorcycles even funner. If you liked GTA3, or didn't like GTA3 because of its darkness, I highly recommend Vice City. The game is much better than the 3rd, which was much better than the 2nd, which was a little better than the first.

I was playing Vice City last night and my wife walks in and says "The graphics look horrible". They do sort of suck compared to other games I've played. Some objects look all blocky and jagged. But this game is so much fun!

only cheat i've done is summon the tank... I got all 6 stars then. took 1/2 hour for them to destroy the tank and kill me.

I fell into the GTA hype with the pc version first so my opinion may be a little biased.

- The graphics are indeed pretty crappy. I hoped that it would be a better improvement over the graphics in GTA3. In fact, I do not notice any graphical improvements from GTA3.

- Gameplay is plays very much like the GTA3, except that I think I much rather use a keyboard/mouse combo than controller for more precise movement. Sometimes when you're walking the camera angle gets all funny and the camera ends up facing you instead of the direction you're moving. This can get very annoying especially when you get into a gun fight and you can't see where you're shooting! For this reason, I hope that the pc version comes out soon becase I never experienced those problems on the PC.

- The music soundtrack is pretty good. Just from playing a couple hours of the game, I recognize a lot of good songs from the 80s that I really did not expect to hear. And there's more hilarious talk radio than in GTA3 which is definitely a good thing.

- Vice City, geographically, is HUGE. It's much bigger than liberty city. I dont know if its just me, but I'm having a harder time seeing turns and intersections on the road.

The first few missions are EASY. I'm stuck on one of Diaz's missions that I know isn't all that hard, but I suck at driving the boat so I keep getting it shot up by the cops.

The rampages are MUCH easier this time. There's one with a minigun, it's great. You have unlimited ammo, so its basicly "hold down the fire button and spray in an arc". The people you're shooting are all running away cause of your God-Like firepower. If you've ever seen Dogma, I found myself thinking about the slaughter in the Mooby Boardroom (Don't run!). The cops come, but they can't stop you. And when you finish the rampage, your stars all go away :D (but so does your mingun:(). Hands down my favorite Vice City moment :D

The better weapons are found earlier too. The sniper rifle and Katana can be had as soon as you open Starfish island (not long). You get a nice assault rifle early on. I guess the rocket launcher is just laying around in a hotel pool somewhere (but I've not found it).

The peds crack me up. I was sitting at an intersection (I had just ditched my car and was about to steal a cuban gang car) when a rival gang runs up to the gang car, pulls out the driver, and kills him! Not to mention if you follow a cop on foot long enough, he'll start chasing another criminal, so if you feel like a good citizen, you can help him out (and get a bonus). Just don't shoot the criminal, cause then the cop will turn on you.

I really have no problem with the graphics. Getting up above everything in my personal helicopter as the sun is rising/setting is beautiful. Flying over the water is amazing, so tranquil. Then I land the chopper and start sniping people off the roof of the nearest building. Ahh chaos. :D
