Take Two just announced their highly anticipated (that's being cautious) Grand Theft Auto IV will be delayed from this October until the fiscal second quarter of 2008, or between February and April of 2008.

Though no direct cause for the delay was cited, Take-Two Chairman Strauss Zelnick said "certain elements of development proved to be more time-intensive than expected."

Wow, that sucks. Luckily, with the massive amount of games coming out this fall/winter I think I'll survive. I'd rather have a polished product than a rushed flop, so at least they're taking their time.

Read: The PS3 is a PITA to develop for. ;)

I don't care that much considering I wasn't really excited for this title.

This is going to piss of Sony and MS though. This was going to be a system mover for them during the all important holidays.

Exactly. I wonder if the DLC MS paid for will also get delayed then. They won't be too happy about that.

I also don't really care though. I've never been into GTA and there's already 10+ more games on my must buy list before gta4. But still big news.

Either that or the troubles they were having getting the game to fit on a DVD are still there.

I'm sure it is a little from column A and a little from column B. However, every demo/video of the game shown has been from the 360 version. So, make of that what you will.

But why would they delay the game for both consoles? Missing the holidays is huge. Unless they are having a hard time trying to cram the game into DVD9. ;)

Actually here is the full quote, not that it necessarily changes anything.

Certain elements of development proved to be more time-intensive than expected, especially given the commitment for a simultaneous release on two very different platforms.

That's even more money in Nintendo's pocket. I knew several people who were going to buy an XBOX 360 just to play GTA4.

Indeed, Nintendo must be laughing all the way to the bank, one less blockbuster game to compete against this holiday season.

I'm OK with this...more time for Halo 3 and Mass Effect (not to mention Smash Bros and Mario Galaxy).

Well that sucks. That was really the only game I was looking forward to this year. But I guess there are plenty of other good 360 games to play between now and then.

Sweet. There are WAY too many good games coming out this xmas, and probably far too few next april. Im almost always happy to hear that a game is delayed, because I'd much rather have a complete, polished product, than a POS rushed out the door to make an already jam packed XMAS season.

Plus, I wasnt planning on getting a PS3 until after xmas, so it works out perfectly.

Besides, GTA doesnt need xmas to sell. It's got a big enough name that it can sell well whenever, especially in the midst of a drought. And I just can't see too many parents buying GTA for their kids anyway. :p

That's me. GTA4 is the game that will push me into one of the latest consoles. Now I can wait until spring.

I'm also cool with this. It would make an awesome March release, a month which often sees pretty good titles.
