Grand Royal is the record label that sold Beastie Boys, At The Drive-In, Jimmy Eat World, Luscious Jackson, Atari Teenage Riot, and other such bands......and yeah, they're going out of business, and all of their merch is on sale. CDs are around 7 bucks, vinyls, t-shirts, and everything are on sale. Thought this might help some people out, the prices look pretty good.

This is my first hot deal post......not a tech post, but hey, saving money is saving money. :) Hope it wasn't a repost, I tried searching for Grand Royal. Hope somebody benefits from it.

My guess is that the online store is going out of business, not the label itself. I could be wrong as it is just a guess, but I can't see the label going under.

Yes, it's true. The label is done. I've been a Beastie Boys fan since they broke onto the scene when I was in middle school, and continued to follow them thru my high-school, college, and now post-college years. I recently heard this news:

<<

The Beastie Boys? Grand Royal records shut their doors last week due to "mounting debts, decreasing assets and exceedingly harsh industry conditions."

The following press release was issued Aug 31st.

GRAND ROYAL
R.I.P. 1993-2001

Mounting debts, decreasing assets and exceedingly harsh industry conditions have forced the venerable Grand Royal label to close its doors. The announcement came today that the label could no longer operate at its current loss.

"This is one of the most difficult decisions we?ve ever had to make," said co-founder Mike Diamond a/k/a Mike D of Beastie Boys. "Over the years the Grand Royal family had grown to include some of the most talented musicians and staff in the business. It?s tragic that the same growth has also produced an overhead and infrastructure that can no longer viable."

Grand Royal was founded by Beastie Boys in 1993, the first release on the label being Luscious Jackson?s now classic In Search Of Manny. Within a few years, the label had gone from a public hobby to a full service operation, with a roster featuring Atari Teenage Riot, Ben Lee, Sean Lennon, BS2000 and others, and Luscious Jackson?s Fever In, Fever Out being certified gold. More recently, Grand Royal releases At The Drive-In?s critically lauded Relationship Of Command, which went on to sell nearly 1 million copies worldwide.

"Our intentions were always simply to create a home for exciting music and the people who were passionate about it," Diamond said. "It really sucks that we can?t continue to do that."

Nope, the whole thing is over:

"GRAND" FINALE: Grand Royal Records, the indie music label founded in 1992 by the Beastie Boys, shutting down due to "mounting debts, decreasing assets, and exceedingly harsh industry conditions," Allstar news reports.

yeah, I'm on their mailing list (errrr, was?), and they're done for. The email had been sitting in my inbox for a bit, so I finally read it. Hopefully someone gets some use out of this post.......otherwise, I'm just informing the AT masses that Grand Royal is no more. :)
