Interesting, but sad. It's one of the better vehicles that Daimler-Chrysler puts out.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.

I'm not a big fan of American cars but that is one that I'd get if I was forced to buy one.

You'd think they'd cancel the Dodge Cirrus or Wrangler first.

Who is MB? I'm assuming you're saying that Daimler-Chrysler made the decision not to make them anymore? If so, that's the stupidest decision any automobile manufacturer can make. (The GC is the #2 selling SUV behind the Explorer)

Motherf*&king GERMAN pieces of DOG SH!T!!! How are you gonna phase out the #2 selling SUV in the US. How can you kill ANY Jeep.

Jeep is a brand name. Probably the most recognizable brand name in the world. You don't f**k with tradition you bastards.

Kiss my ass!:|

DC is not going to get rid of it no way in hell. whoever started this d@mned rumor better come out and get a good swift @ss kicking that they deserve! i'm with NSF4 on this (well, not the branding part, coke is most recognized followed by ferrari)

i just went over to ABC's website and watched the video. its the cherokee that was being phased out, not the GC, even though they showed a GC video.

heard about that a while ago... a cuter miniute is replacing the cherokee in europe next year, and will eventually supplant the cherokee in the US, but it won't happen for a couple of years.

If they're are phasing out the Grand Cherokee does that mean that my Cherokee will become a collector's item? In that case I better wrap it up and put it in the closet.

Am I the only one thinking that Daimlier Chrystler should just let Jeep be Jeep and don't try to share anything or make them something they're not?

ElFenix got it right, but everyone else is still getting it wrong:

It's the CHEROKEE, the CHEROKEE, not the GRAND Cherokee that's getting canned.

It's too old a design and sales were down 14% last year. DCX is making a new SUV called the Liberty (I'm guessing it's like the Ford Escape mini-SUV) and they'll have the Grand Cherokee too.

This reminds me of the the diaper-filling that went on when it was announced that "The Matrix" wasn't going to available initially for retail purchase. Peeps were screaming "CENSORSHIP!!!" and worse, blaming anyone and everyone for their favorite movie EVER being denied them. Nevermind that it was available on DVD at first and then at sell-thru prices ($15-$25) after the film company had soaked Blockbuster et al for the rental stock. (Rental tapes sell for ~$100:Q) They just went off half-cocked and half informed.

Get ALL the facts before getting crazy with accusations, mmmkay?

WTF?

If goddamn ABC news shows a damn Grand Cherokee, and I know the difference between a Cherokee and GC, don't blame me. I'm telling it like I saw it. I've got nothing against the GC. I was shocked to see that they were cancelling it. The Cherokee on the other hand I understand since its so old.

Network do that all the time. Remember that the videos and stuff are all eye candy. I once saw them do a segemnt on the AMD Athlon and they show computers with "Intel Inside" stickers.

The Cherokee isn't going anywhere per se...it's just being replaced by the Liberty

I don't think they'd be dumb enough to eliminate the wrangler, a wrangler esque jeep has been around for a LONG time. I've got a 1980 CJ5 that might as well be called the wrangler of 1980. Anyway I also don't tink the germans are old enough to whack the grand cherokee. Actually if the germans are smart they wont play around with jeep too much, there are alot of jeep enthusiasts who would not approve I think.
