The delay sucks but it is probably the smart thing. Too many other PS3 exclusives coming out in March for North America.

I hope the Japanese version has an English option. It'll let those who want it in March to get it in March. Gran Turismo 4 was my last impulse purchase game and I can see myself doing it again.

As I said in other threads speculating about ps3 AAA titles coming out.

I'll believe GT5 is out when I have it in my system. and I have at least completed 50% of hte game.

Anything short of that. GT5 is not out.

You would think Sony at this stage in the game tell PD you just put it out. They've poured 50-60 million if not more into development.

Countdown until GT5 is delayed to be a launch title for the PS4.

But seriously, I'm glad they're taking the time to polish it. Maybe this means all the cars will have interiors now?

Obviously you haven't waited for previous releases of GT.

This really isn't new in Gran Turismo world. I kinda expected it.

The PSP version took five years to come out, so it's not surprising. Polyphony is notoriously slow at getting stuff out. The end product is excellent but I don't know how they make money with that kind of turnaround.

I'll bet you guys think God of War 3 is really coming out in March, too. :)

The reason why Sony is perfectly happy with PD doing things their way? While it is true that GT5 has cost that much, they have generated over $150Million in retail revenue already off the game, and it isn't out yet. Even if GT5 never releases, PD has already made a profit on it.

The end product is excellent but I don't know how they make money with that kind of turnaround.

They average over 10 million units sold per console release. The GT series cleared 50 million units sold over a year ago. PD releases demos that push well into nine figure range for revenue. PD makes truckloads of money for Sony, and they have continued to do so by doing things the same way they always have.

What? Are you really implying that there are 2.5 million fully-paid pre-orders out there? There's just no freaking way that could be true. Feel free to prove me wrong, naturally, but that's quite a claim...

The wildcard is how much Forza will draw off sales. While I'm sure you probably don't feel like that's a factor, there's almost no denying that the combination of Forza's quality and the 360's popularity may eat into GT's traditional sales.

He's talking about GT 5: Prologue. They've sold over 3 million copies.

As someone who owns Forza 3 and was planning on buying GT5, I have to say this. GT5 better be leaps and bounds ahead of Forza 3, otherwise there is really no justice for it being delayed/released SOOOOOOO much later than expected. Hell, GT5 was supposed to compete with Forza 2, no?

Was there even a Forza series back in 2005?

I wonder if it's because some of the features in Forza 3? PD better go beyond F3 and not just put out a product that's equal. I want it to blow everything out of the water. There's absolutely no excuse due to the time it has taken them and all the talk about how powerful the PS3 is.

GT5P outsold Forza 2 fairly easily, Forza 3 atm is still behind Shift in terms of total sales(GT5P is ahead of both F3 and both platforms Shift combined). In terms of market penetration, Need For Speed is a much stronger competitor then Forza. This isn't me speaking, this is the millions of people who buy the games. Forza hasn't gained anything resembling the mass market appeal that GT has, in terms of market presence it isn't much of a threat at all.

The 360s market penetration will likely have far less of an impact on GT then it would on most other frachises, GT sells 2:1 outside of NA versus inside, that ratio is reversed for Forza. The 360's strongest market is the relative weakest one for GT.

I don't really think of GT5 and GT5P as the same game.

But that is exactly what the development budget includes. GT5P has now cleared 4 Million units sold, GT5 has already made a larger profit then Forza 3 and it hasn't even been released yet. That is just to put things in context when people start balking at the cost of developing the game.

I think they delay it for the facts that Forza 3 is such a well made game that they want extra months to made gt5 even better.

GT5 hasn't been delayed once. When people hope the game comes out != release date :)

That may be all true, Ben. But the reality of it is Forza 3 is an excellent game. It was developed and released in a MUCH shorter time frame than GT5 will end up being. If GT5 is only slightly better than Forza 3 (in terms of gameplay) than it will be a disappointment, in my opinion. For all the time/effort they've put into GT5, it better be a far superior product to Forza 3. And yes, we all know GT5 will outsell Forza 3. But guess what. In 2005 Madden 2005 outside NFL 2k5 (or whatever it was called) but Madden certainly wasn't the better game.
