Gran Turismo 5 has been a long long long time coming but it appears there is light at the end of the tunnel with an announcement from the European Playstation Blog that the demo for the much anticipated sim racer is coming on December 17th.

This isn't just any ordinary demo however. The demo is a time trial featuring the Nissan 370Z to qualify for entry into the GT Academy. If you manage to achieve one of the twenty best times in your country, you will be selected to attend a national final event. Win that and you will be part of 20 particiants in the GT Academy for 2010. From there you compete for the chance to be the GT Academy 2010 ace driver.

awesome news! Can't wait for the full game though. Hopefully the driving model has improved to close to Forza 3 standards. Gonna be awesome though cuz there are so many styles of racing in it.

Hopefully their interior models at least surpass Forza 3. Judging by GT5P I believe they have already achieved this, but I don't have Forza 3 yet to compare.

Not that I really care because I prefer bumper cam in GT5. It is fun to use the interior view every now and then, though.

i think the interiors are going to be better. overall, the cars may all look better. they really did some pretty incredible stuff considering the limited power of the PS2 (minus interiors).

i'm still not holding my breath on the physics model and online community, though.

Yeah interiors and overall visuals are definitely better in GT5. Wish they had the awesome community and livery options.

I prefer behind the car view myself, the inside cam is difficult to go through corners with.

For fans of interior view GT5 is supposed to have a gimmicky Eye Toy tie in where turning your head pans the camera inside the car. Thought that was amusing, although I'm still a firm bumper/hood fan myself.

This news is up on the US Blog too-

Unlike the European contest though, American residents don't get the whole driving aspect thrown in with a chance to actually become a race car driver for team Sony :(

Translated from PD's Japanese site-

the movement of Cockpit Camera interface (confirmed in full 3-D. The camera can be fully manipulated and you can opt to have your head tracked by the PSEye)

Kind of curious about how it will work, I can see myself getting annoyed real fast with it, but maybe it would be cool. Also, a 'Red' post over on the official Playstation blog states that you will be able to import both your GT PSP and GT5 : P cars into GT5, not sure how I feel about that. I liked the idea of some extra cash, but don't relish the idea of starting off with a F1 car.
