Grammar Question

I have always been confused about this. When you are typing a quote and want to put the page number, how do you do it?

Ex. - "quote." (Pg. 1)
Ex2. - "quote" (Pg. 1).

Notice the periods...does anybody know which is correct?

first example is correct

Second example is correct (MLA format)

when you quote from source, you put the period at end of parentheses.
