How is anything Texas does interesting anymore? Texas is the retarded stepson of the USA. Nobody from outside of Texas thinks of Texas as anything other than a giant, humid joke.

It's like still being shocked when Britney Spears flashes her beav when she gets out of a car. At this point they're just shambling, vaguely depressing caricatures of real people/states.

You can't claim racism. If it was a White judge, I bet you would have added that. This is one of those case that is to "set an example" because the neighborhoods are tired of this behavior. Kid fucked up, got caught at the wrong time.

WTF. I wouldn't mind seeing him publicly caned ala that kid in Singapore a while back, fined double the damages, put on probation, 1000 hours of community service, etc.

But this is just f-ed up.

Love that judge. I would love to see one of her kids get busted for something like this.

Isn't there a constitutional law about no excessive punishment?

Ahh the Eight Amendment:

Forbids excessive bail or fines, and cruel and unusual punishment.

Agreed actually. My problem is the use of the prison system in this way. Not only is it a HUGE burden on tax payers to put people in prison, they are basically breeding grounds for more criminal activity.

Unless this kid wants to eat the cock meat sandwich he will have to join a gang and be involved in either the in prison drug trade or assault and other forms of violence. You are basically taking someone who has not committed a violent crime and forcing them to become a violent gang member.

Don't worry though, I am sure this is just another statistic to pad the judges resume when next election cycle comes around and she has to prove that she is "tuff on crime".

Another failure of this country. Thousands will be spent to keep this fool in jail. Thousands that could have been spent on prosecuting real criminals. This judge is a fool, and should be removed from the bench and shunned for eternity. Everyone knows this.

IMO it should be legal for the general public to shoot "taggers" for sport.

I wonder how much the felony MJ charge weighed in on total time? 8 years no parole/probation for graffiti is absolutely absurd.

I believe that the standard is grossly disproportionate punishments, not just disproportionate.

while i agree we need harsher punishment in the country in general, this is a bit excessive

I agree, but it beats a lot of the fuckers who think they it should be legal for them to shoot a tagger. I understand not liking what they do, but kill them over it? People who think like that scare me.

No prison time. Cut off hand. Solves problem. If not cut off both hands. Hard to paint with no hands.

Yea, I bet this is another one of the seemingly endless situations where we are not being given the full story, just "enough" of the story to make some statement.

To be honest, if anything, it seemed the news organization was pretty happy with the verdict. They def seemed to be targeting their audience of middle class small business owners etc. with the story.

8 years for a non-violent crime? Normally, youtube comments aren't very intelligent but
That is the dumbest fucking ruling ever. Good job, judge. For $7,300 worth of damage, you choose to spend $160,000 to incarcerate an adolescent for eight years. Now he has a 66% chance of emerging from that prison reformed, and 33% chance of emerging from it as a violent offender.

You, Judge Marisela Saldana, are everything that is wrong with American jurisprudence. You and your kind should never wield the power of law, because you abuse it. Go to hell.

Even if the numbers are completely made up, the point still stands. This is such a waste in so many ways.

Don't you know that 57% of statistics are made up on the spot?

Are you kidding me? Taggers are useless wastes of oxygen, and humanity as a whole would benefit if they all suffer a painful slow death.

People who would kill another because they don't like something they do are even worse. And should die an even slower, more painful death. You honestly are saying because a kid spray paints on the wall he deserves to die a slow painful death? Yeah, you're one of the wackos I'm talking about.

No, he is a internet tough guy. He is the same type of person who'd shit their pants if they ever had to interact with some vicious criminal tagger, yet can mouth off online like a champ.
