when I graduated high school, my parents gave me 5 weeks in europe and a dictionary. the trip was negotiated, if I'd chosen out of state school it wouldn't have happened.
when my daughter graduated high school last year, we got her a digital video camera. we were going to get her a car this year, for retaining her scholarships first year (she's goin' to college free..tuition room board books and pocket money.. least we can do is get her a car) but she doesn't want one yet.. so.. maybe next year.
