I'm graduating in June, and I don't know what to do after.

I want to go into computer networking, but I need to get my 536 math to get into 90% of the good computer networking courses at CEGEP. And the private sector requires you to have a full 12months off school to get in.

Here?s what my dad thinks is a good idea, I go to adult school to get my 536 math (only two days a week) and get a job as a computer tech for a year. Then take a good computer course at CEGEP or in the private sector.

What I thought was best was take a year at CEGEP, where I take my 536 math and a basic one year computer course. Then after that I take a good computer-networking course.

Any advise on what I should do?

And don't take time off. You'll never want to start.

You should take a year off and work then go back to school the next year, it will be much nicer for you if you do that.

Go to a JC to get the extra courses you need. Work full time also if you can, it will be good experience.

After a couple of years, you will have a better idea of the real world and what you want to do and are capable of.

Thats what my dad is saying. But I personnally think a year in cegep (college) is worth more then a year in adult school??

Do JC for a year or two, transfer into a university and graduate with a BS in CE / CECS. You'll thank me later.

Here's an umpteenth vote for college. Fun. And I even managed to learn something.

GO to college, unless you're set on networking computers for the rest of your life.

college

I feel sorry for 40-60 year old guys just short of retiring who get laid off from work and then have to go back to college at that age just to a get a decent job to put food on the table.

I will deviate from the standard answer.

Start your own business! You will learn more about the "real world" doing this for 6 months than you will in college in 4 years. Yes education is important, but owning a business and taking courses are not mutually exclusive. In fact I recommend taking several economics, finance, and perhaps real estate courses. You will need to know these three areas for just about any business. It is hard work in the beginning but it will produce great results in about ten years, if you are willing to learn. I have started a RE business on the side (go to work and school also) and I feel more confident in my ability to make money for myself than I do finishing my degree working for a corp.

My two pennies.
