***This thread is exclusively for graduating senior college students only!***

Let us form a small network of ATOT to share knowledge on job searching tips & everything else to help each other. (Quite diff. from the networking thread)

You can post about the following:

1. What you are doing to look for jobs.
2. Where/What are you applying to/to be?
3. If you already have a job, how did you get it?
4. Additional pointers & tips!

I'll start:
1. I'm currently using MonsterTRAK, Campus Career Center, Monster.com & Craiglist as my main method. My college's career center is pretty much piss poor, therefore I'm forced to find a job on my own. I've started to search actively about two weeks ago. I haven't heard from anyone particular yet.

2. Again, I don't have one yet. I would really like to find a job @ $40K minimum with BSBA. Monster & Craiglist has been serving me well so far with FINDING jobs, although I haven't had any results yet. I've had one phone call back from some stupid sales instore sales position.

Positions I've applied so far are Project Manager, Territory Manager- Trainee, Classified Sales Training Manager. I have an extensive corporate training background (I'm pretty much the multi-purpose manager at my parents' restaurant, managing 11 member staff) and it would be awesome for me become a coporate trainer for some big company...

3. I've had prev. success with monster way back. 3 yrs ago, AT&T Broadband (now comcast) found me to become a CSR getting paid $12 an hour.. not too bad for a then-freshmen.

4. Some of my own tips: always continually revise your resume! I cannot think of more at this point.

Go go go! Let's get together and share some valuable info and insight to each other! to employment!

***if you are an employer***
You're more than welcome to give us some personal pointers as well.

I have a job. Got a full time offer with a large accounting firm after I interned there last summer. I'll be starting mid-August. Good luck. :)

It took me over a year to find a full time position. I applied through my schools "JobZone" system, or by emailing employers directly. I created an Excel spreadsheet with info and contacts for almost 400 local companies that higher CS/SE grads. I kept track of everything there, and just kept plugging away.

I had these fields for company/contact. If I had multiple contacts for a company I would enter a complete new row with different contacts.

Company Name
Contact Name
Contact Email
Contact Phone
Company Address
Company City

I had these fields for keeping track of what was going on with each:

Date Applied
How Applied
Latest Contact Date
Current Status

I'm graduating, but I'm a graduating Masters student, but I'll post anyways. I haven't applied to too many jobs (I've been busy/lazy), but from the few that I've applied to I've had some pretty enthusiastic responses. I mainly go through the company websites and apply online and they contact me.

One thing I hate is when the company emails back asking if I'm interested in a certain position and it ends up being some PhD level position where I'm not fully qualified. It's pretty intimidating.

looking for a manager position with just a BA or BS is pretty ambitious. I didn't look for a full time job but did get a summer internship. i'll be doing my master's next yr but i should not be having any problems finding full time work. i'll probably go back to the firm i intern with.

most people here start looking for full time work around the fall term so i'm not sure what is still available so late in the yr

Ha! Great minds think alike. I also have a small spreadsheet to keep track of my jobs. It's fairly simple though.. the fields are as follows:

Company Name
Position
Salary
Status (reply confirmed, phone interviewed, etc...)
Date applied
Source (monster, craigslist, career center, etc...)
Additional Notes
Cover letter? (well this field is actually pointless, since I decided to send CL to all jobs)
Contact

That's the thing. Just WTF do you do with a BSBA in mgmt? It can be pretty discouraging out there...

not sure what you would do with a BBA in management. most ppl here at michigan focus on finance, accting, marketing etc instead of pure management b/c there are not many jobs in that field with just a BS or BA

Graduate in June, start July 11th. Management Consultant at a top 10 firm. Got it through my schools career center. Experience is key when looking for a first job now.

Mine is slowly coming along. I'm graduating with a BSBA (MIS) in 3 weeks.

I got a call last week about a job with a company I never applied to...guess the university's career center is helping me out.

I've got a couple of leads in TN and a possible lead in OH.

I just reworked my resume to get away from the bullet points that everyone seems to use and more of a sentence format to try and make myself stand out.

You're more than welcome to give us some personal pointers as well.

A good way for a new grad to get their foot in the door is to work with staffing companies to get a contract position. Once you're there and prove yourself to be efficient, quick to learn, and good at your job, there's a good chance of being converted into a full time position.

graduating next year (cs &economics) ... I've got an intership with an investment bank, so hopefully i can land a job there.

On the side note though, I remember the recruitment boss saying that they don't have enough IT interns this year... go figure

Not to thread crap, but the business school where I went wouldn't even allow you to just major in management, since you usually won't get a management position without experience. You might want to look into getting a second major. At my school I graduated with an MIS degree and only needed 6 more Finance classes to get my finance degree.

In reply to OP's question, I found a job as an IT auditor that starts this summer. I interviewed for the job back in November and most companies like to have their summer hiring done before Jan. 1st. You might wanna think about hitting the career fairs next fall if you can't find a job you like.

I graduate in a week. Since I'm unsure of my future plans (grad school or work), I haven't put too much time into looking for a job. I've had several interviews and received an offer each time, but I have turned them all down thus far. I do have another interview tomorrow morning.

As far as looking, I used a combination of my school's career center and online resources. I used HotJobs, Monster etc just to see what companies were hiring. I'd then go to their companies site, learn about the company, and send in my application/resume.
