My brother is graduating in a little over 2 weeks and would like to consolidate his debt from college loans. Does anyone know of any good companies/sites that can provide useful information or consolidation services?

Thanks.

Note: The mods gave my brother a nice vacation...otherwise, he would be the one posting

UNBAN theNEOone you NAZImods...where are we, East Germany?!

Calling the mods NAZI definitely is not going to win you any points.

As for your question, I am interested in seeing some of the responses since I should probably consolidate my debt as well.l

if its a federal loan (stafford or the like) you have 6 months grace period before you have to start paying back the loan. so basically, if your brother doesnt have a job now, he can wait max of six months b4 consolidating. personally, i'd wait till the end of my grace period to consolidate....cuz once you consolidate, you have to start paying.

i dont have the link, but you can google dept of education. call them up and ask them about consolidating. they will be able to direct u properly. id stick with a reputable company. also ask for various quotes on APR b4 you sign anything. they might be half a percent off from each other, but why pay more than you have to. basically the dept of education CSR will tell u everything

edit: im gettin 2.75% APR. i'll try to find the phone numbers when i get home tonight. but wont be able to post till tom cuz my HD is fried @ home

edit2: also u cant consolidate a non federal loan and a federal loan into one. like i have stafford loans and a NJCLASS loan. i coundnt consolidate those into one

i consolidated through sallie mae (for easiness purposes.)

2.625% booyah.

if he originally went through sallie mae, it should be fine. definitely wait until the end of your grace period. sallie mae does have an option however that they won't do anything until near the end of your grace period.

Is there a point of consolidation if you only have 1 loan? Can you get a lower APR still?

the way i read my loan info, the rate could vary from year to year. by consolidating you lock in the one rate. so i'm locked in at 2.625%.
