I'm going in the fall (from the offers thus far, probably Caltech, but still waiting) for a PhD in mathematics / applied mathematics. My GPA isn't on a 4.0 scale (you get 4.33 for an A+), but it's around 4.11, though will drop by graduation since I smoke entirely way too much pot.

I'm in an MA program right now. Undergrad GPA was 3.8, GRE was 1380. The most important parts of the application process, though, were letters of recommendation and writing samples.

In Grad School now...

Working on my M.B.A.

My undergraduate degree is Business Management/Human Resources Management double major.

Of course, I work with computers and don't plan on working as a manager for a little while when I get my REAL degree finished. 😎

Do the letters of rec. have to be from an academic?

It helps if you're letters have some meaningful connection to what you want to do.

If you want to be a shrink for example, assisting a professor in a research experiment then getting a letter from them is key.

<---preparing now for in the future.
