I am thinking of pursuing my Phd in Computer Science with specialization in Graphics.

Need suggestions of good schools with good research in the field.

My GRE score is 740 Q, 710 A, 540 V

My current selections are

University of Utah
University of North Carolina, Chapell Hill
Stanford
Clemson

I need maybe 3-4 more..

What about Carnegie Mellon? I know they have a good Computer Science program.

You did good on the quantitative and analytical. They probably place importance on that. You should go ahead and apply, you never know. Did you have a high undergrad gpa?

I already have an MS from Case Western Reserve Univeristy with a GPA of 3.83.

Guess that should be ok.

The other concern is the subject GRE. Carnegie mellon need is for Phd..i did not have time to take that in time.
:(

btw..I am really impressed by their program though.

where did you do your undergrad? [edit: I see -- that is a reputable school and a good GPA :) ]

also, check with faculty in your major dept to see if they have any recommendations -- you will certainly be asking them for recs, so this is a good idea anyway. they may also have contacts at your preferred schools.

did my undergrad in Queensland university of technology, Australia.
Currently working in an ecommerce company for 1.5 yrs.

Got bored of working and Ecommerce and feel like studying graphics..hence the change needed.

Need some good schools with good graphics departments.

No, aim high. Remember to make contacts at those schools with the individual(s) you think you might wish to study under. They can be of GREAT assistance. Just write a letter or email (carefully written) to them, or call them and introduce yourself, state what your research agenda is and ask for adive about the program, etc.

MIT (my alma mater)

I can't believe if you have a Masters, with a respectible GPA, from an EXCELLENT school (CWRU was my second choice to MIT), that a PhD program would worry about GRE scores that much?!?!?! Maybe its true... I stopped at my masters and never looked into a PhD program.

Never short change yourself. I got into MIT undergrad with some crappy SAT/ACT scores... And I got into MIT masters program with a very average undergrad GPA (the last semester before I applied.... I wooped my grades... so they let me in). My point is... never limit yourself based on YOUR impressions of the situation. Just apply ANYWHERE you would like to go, and see what THEY think. Be positive... never know.. maybe they need the quota from your state?!?!?! ;) :D :p

If you want nicer weather... go to Stanford. CalTech (someone else mentioned this) is more generalized I think... it may not have the comp sci/graphics type of program you want.

FYI - i will be an international student - so no quotas.

However you guys have given me the strength / confidence to apply to the universities of my choice.

I will apply to MIT for sure..

Thanks guys.

Also, I need 1 or 2 universities where I will definetely get in?? Anyone?
