so I have 3 choices in my area for graduate school(mathematics). Currently, my gpa is not the higest, so the letters of reccommendations are very important to me. I want to apply to all 3, and and depending on which one I get accepted into, I can choose.

How do I handle my letters of reccomendations from proffessors? I'm not close to my profs at all, but I do have 2 or 3 that I think will be able to help me out a bit. Do I ask them each to write 3 letters, one for each school?

how do people usually handle this type of situation?

letters of rec: get all three to write you letters, but impersonal letters are useless imho so just think what would a graduate admission board think of letters that do not showcase much other than how you did in the class. your letters should indicate that you are a great student that can learn and utilize the material in a course. one letter should highlight your personality/moral character/ethics/etc. letter 2 - how you did in a course (mathematics) that would show that you are an exemplarary graduate student in mathematics. letter 3 - experience in the field. these three letters should be enough to show that you are a superb candidate for a grad program.

re: handling letters.
- if you are going to have them write letters for each school you apply to, it is a real hassle for them. if your school has one available, have them write a letter in a sealed envelope (put letter in envelope, sign the seal) to the letter service, which will send out the letter to the schools that you request to have it sent to.

yes have the same people write for each school. But if you are not close to any of them you may have a problem ...

Yes. Also give each prof a short summary of when they met you, what classes /projects you did and your grade with them. Also give them your application essay for each school. Then give them a stamp/addressed envelope and be sure to send a thank you note.
