Graduate Loans???

I'm currently researching different lenders for student loans. All of the recommended lenders basically have the same rates and all the other good stuff. So basically I guess it just comes down to what lender is the easiest to deal with.

These are on the list the financial aid office gave me:

www.studentloanxpress.com
www.accessgroup.org
www.studentloan.com
www.collegeloancorp.com
www.educaid.com
www.northstar.org

Are there any other lenders that are better? I'm going to be borrowing the federal stafford loans both subsidized and unsubsidized. And I don't need any private loans.

I'm just wondering what lender most students (undergrads and grads) went through; and what was your experience dealing with them.

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks
Steve🙂

EDIT: Oh, and no law school/lawyer jokes please!!! Remember, I haven't started yet. I am untainted!!!😛

😕
If you don't need private loans, why are you asking about private loans?

FAFSA is for graduate loans too

These are all the places that offer the federal stafford loans. I'm just asking for personal experiences in dealing with these lenders.

Dullard, you are thinking of Direct Stafford Loans. There are also stafford loans that go through a bank.

All my stafford loans came directly from the government. There was no other lender. I filled out my FAFSA, got my financial aid offer in the mail that included the federal stafford loans, signed the acceptance of that offer, sent it back in, and picked up my check from the financial aid office when the term started. I never dealt with a bank or other lender.

But when my wife went to school this past year, she had to pick a bank to deal with even though it was a federal stafford loan. She went to a different school. So I guess it depends on which school you go to on whether you can get a Direct loan or you have to work with a separate lender.

Go with the FAFSA stuff first...if you can't get the funds you need then talk to private lenders.

Your rate will usually be much higher, you may not be allowed to consolidate at a later time, and you may have other penalties against prepayment/accelerated payoff.

Keep in mind that once you have your response from the Government loans you should not go out and then apply for private ones. The government lends on your financial situation, if you get more money coming in they may adjust their portion down.

Your advisor should know your financial snapshot and handle alot of this for you and point you in the right direction.
