GPU Whine with new card

I just upgraded from my old HIS HD5850 to a new HIS R9 280x. Bad thing is, it gets pretty bad coil while when playing >60fps. I've heard a bunch of different "remedies" for coil whine. I've tried over/underclocking and over/undervolting, neither worked. Some people mentioned running a benchmark like 3DMark for a few hours to fix the problem.

Anyone else had this problem and fixed it? Worse case I'll RMA but I'd rather avoid that if possible lol.

Return it to point of sale, get a refund, reset your 30 day window, Try a different brand or different card.

RMA'ing to manufacturer for coil whine is a horrible idea. Without going into details, don't do it, return for refund to point of sale. If you RMA to manf. 99% chance you will get screwed and probably a "replacement" that also has coil whine. Or a refurbed card. Don't do that. And then you're just basically screwed because you're out of your 30 day window and the manuf. will tell you coil whine is no problem. Coil whine to me is a deal breaker, depending on how loud it is. I've heard some cards with whine so bad that you can hear it in a different room. That's a no go with me, don't get stuck with this problem.

I heard 24 + hrs

I've heard the same thing. Also trying Furmark for a while might do the trick.

Worst case scenario, you then return or exchange it.

How old is your PSU? This could be the culprit. I also had coil whine with two different 7950s, a GTX 770, and a GTX 780. Finally decided it must be my system so changed PSU. Coil whine gone.

I had a 4870 that whined for years, until I sold it. Capping framerate helped, but given the opportunity I'd vote exchanging at Newegg.

You run furmark, youll need an RMA after wards! It over heats the card hard for no reason.
Try swapping the PSU if you have a second one around, fer chits n giggles.

Are you saying that the psu caused the coil whine with the graphics card?

I don't know about running 3d mark as being a solution to coil whine. From my memory, coil whine was cause by 3d mark. my old GTX660 (Asus and Galaxy models) and the new 290x had coil whine when running the first test in the newest 3d version

I tried running FurMark but I couldn't get above 60fps so it wouldn't whine lol. It's not my PSU because it didn't start until after I got the new card and I ran a decibel meter to see exactly where the noise was coming from. The whine seemed to disappear on its own for the most part (it only happens when i'm going over ~90-100fps now).
