GPU usage spikes

Hi All,

I recently purchased an MSI twin frozr 570gtx. I keep getting periodic GPU usage spikes up to 99% (as viewed in afterburner) during games that normally only use about 50% of the GPU and then the game crashes to desktop and I get the following message:

"The NVIDIA OpenGL driver lost connection with the display driver and is unable to continue. The application must close.

Please visit http://www.nvidia.com/page/support.html for help. Error code: 8"

I'm currently running forceware 280.28 which is beta I believe but I also had the same problem with 275.33 WHQL. It's getting pretty aggravating and I've read posts on other forums where others are having similiar problems. Any ideas?

Thanks,

NP

Buy a Radeon 6970?

No, but seriously, maybe try older drivers sequentially until you find a stable one for your system? And are your sure your card is in good condition? Did you buy it new or used? Have you tried the card in another system or another card in your system.....and has the problem replicated itself if/when you did that?

If you are running WoW (and a few other games), the latest NV driver for some reason causes them to overheat. Known problem, revert to older drivers.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Downclocking the card to reference appears to be helping. That and I'm going to also try older drivers, the oldest I can find on their website is 263.09. Hopefully there's no need to go back farther than that.
