I wanted to know what is the current status with GPU transcoding that cliams to offer 5 times the performance increase.

AVIVO converter :

BadaBOOM from Elemental Technologies looks like an awesome solution that should give you loads of feature that ATI AVIVO converter was suppose to offer but ati never delivered on. According to Nvidia , you should be able to transcode a multiple video at same time. It provides the advance IQ and loads of codec compatibility.

Are there any third party soultion promising to offer GPU transcoding ?

Has ATI got something like BadaBOOM to offer with R700 ?

Are they inherent problem with GPU transcoding that why we haven't seen any major solution.

Edit : changed info on ATI converter

GPU computing is very new. 1.5 years old. CUDA is being used very rapidly now. There are 1-2 novel uses published each month now. I would say there will be some opensource transcoding apps for CUDA before years end. They must only be talking about one card because with a high end rig like FASTRA I would imagine the transcoding time could be reduced by 20x

Interestingly , I didn't know ATI actually did fix alot of IQ quality for AVIVO converter untill i read the beyond3D article.

MM... I shall do my testing of my own. Last time i used AVIVO converter was back in 2005 when Anandtech user were given access to beta. I am surprised that not many website did a follow up on the AVIVO converter. I had the idea the update stopped as soon as the final version was released which was had pretty medicore IQ output.

I would like to see a comparison between an ATI CUDA type thing and nvidia CUDA because ATI has many more stream processors. But I've heard that there are kind of like the AMD vs Intel of the early 90s where Intel was faster, but AMD had more instructions per clock. I hope they come out with a GTX2 280, because 4 of them would make 2000 nodes for parallel processing.

I wouldn't lump AVIVO with BadaBoom, AVIVO isn't GPU accelerated, ATI never came through on that.
