GPU suggestion

I currently game at 1080p 120hz on a BenQ 2420T monitor so I'm looking to get a graphics cards with a worthwhile increase in performance from a 770 and hold out until next year. Can anyone give me reasonable upgrade options? I can go top end but that would be a waste because my whole system will need to be revamped which will definitely put me at loss since I won't use or get the full benefit out of it. I can reach into 980 (brand choice?) price territory only if the communities response think its worthwhile.

System Specs are:

i5 4670k @ 3.4 ghz (doesn't like to be overclocked so I left it stock)
GTX 770 (stock)
Seasonic bronze 750 PSU.
Z87 extreme 4 Asrock MOBO

I do not care for brand but I like nvidia's added game features as well as AMD's pledge to support older cards for a long period of time :).

Edit#2: Browsing through the threads everyone is still recommending an nvidia card for the best balance of acoustics etc. Is it wrong to consider it seeing the ti has been released. I'm also looking into 1440p down the road where it might shine a bit more. Currently in dilemma at the moment so i need sincere responses from the whole package point of view and not based on biases. Thanks. Monitors suggestions should be 1440p I could care less for gync or free sync as long as it gives decent fast motion clarity. Or should I just blindly get the ti and enjoy overkill and monstrous OC for the next two years with a splash of mud due to probable severe under utilization? Im actually on the verge of doing something unwise lol.

Is a used card any option? Because AMD's long-term support is awesome. A used 290 is a good option, and a very, very cheap value proposition as well. You can get one for 150 dollars and get a significant boost up from your 770. In many benchmarks, the 290 beasts out the original Titan due to AMD's long-term driver support and continual improvement. It won't slow down.

If you need something to hold you off at 1080p until next year, the best bang for the buck is a Radeon 290. If you want to spend a little more 290x or GTX 970.

MSI Lightning version.

Got any links? Seems like a good deal even though I do not really like to buy things used but I'm seriously considering it at that price. It needs to at least put out 55 or so fps minimum when most of the settings that's makes a game look it's best are ticked. The card does not need to max all settings.

Yeah as long as you buy within the next 5 days, you are good. I bought this exact card and upgraded from my 580. First thing I noticed was that it is much quieter.

I'd look used OP first and see if you can't get a good deal. All of these cards out that are going to be in your price range have been on the market more than long enough to have used deals in your local area.

Ok thanks for the input, can't order from my phone since connection is crap right now but once I get home I'll definitely get down to business. Since my cpu does not overclock well will I run into alot of performance bottlenecks or do I need to consider upgrading it too. Do I wait for skylake and make the decision then?

No such deals locally around where I live. Plus I'd like to stay away from used if possible, not because it might have issues but I like when I'm the original owner of things. Unless it's something like the deal for the 150 someone posted up above but no reply was given about where it can be purchasedpurchased.

Saphire Trixx-OC 290
Quiet and cool great card glad I purchased one.

Is it worth the 20 extra over the xfx after rebates? Last time a deal was posted about the xfx if I'm not mistaken it comes with a lifetime warranty, good to have even if one does not make use of it.

I guess I understand you. I did similar too with my most recent purchase. I've only done so though because I wanted it NOW and so also bought it locally as well. Otherwise, I've begun to use the free and used market a lot more and saved a ton of money that I have put towards savings now that I wouldn't otherwise because I loved the "New" feeling. I'm a lot more "functional" now lol.
Edit: Just got a non new server chassis from amazon to save 10 dollars. Really, I just have decided to put the money first =D.

Just a question... Isn't xl2420t a 120hz monitor?

Will a r290 or gtx 970 be able to push over 100fps(constant) on current titles (& maybe some future ones as well).

I am in a similar boat. I have 2430t and I couldn't get 100+ fps in current games on max settings with evga 980 sc acx2.0

Yes it is, but I'm not actually aiming for 120 fps rather above 60 when most settings are maxed. But I'm considering 1440p as well but need suggestions also.

Edit: Last call on the 290 xfx, does anyone object to this purchase, or should just go with 390 and call it a day? Any vote for an nvidia card?

You will not lose a significant amount of fps on your cpu compared to say a Core i7 4790k. If you want to overclock, you'll have to invest in a new motherboard and cpu. If you intend to do that I would wait until August 5th for Skylake playform introduction. Since you plan to upgrade next year, you can wait, if not Skylake is near.

As for the XFX 290, that is one steal of a price on Newegg. That should hold you off until 16nm/14nm hbm2 GPUs for next year.

Is their any recent benchmark of how the 290 performs today with updated drivers, preferably a benchmark of the XFX DD. I'm not sure if the Anandtech one is recent.
