Leaving the Halo card Titan aside,7970 GE on top,7970 edges past 680 and 7950 performs neck and neck with 670..Kepler takes more performance hit at 1600p 4xmsaa than GCN counterparts.

LOL, the data you linked to shows the opposite of what you just said at more realistic and playable settings. The GTX 680 outperforms HD 7970 at 19x10 resolution with 4xMSAA enabled, and therefore has a smaller performance hit with 4xMSAA in comparison. At 25x16 resolution, most of these systems other than Titan would not be very playable with MSAA enabled.

I said at 1600p,the perf hit has been lower for amd when going above from 1080p than nv counterparts..

i7 3770 stock + 680 + 16GB 1600MHz RAM @ Ultra Quality/1200p, AA disabled = 50+ FPS

I don't see the point of AA at 1920x1200 unless the game looks really primitive. The first thing I disable to pump up FPS. I nearly died laughing at parts of this game - way better than the original FC3 to boot.

1920x1200 does not even come close to eliminating the need for AA. in fact you probably have a 24 inch screen so that is nothing special at all when it comes to pixel density. that said, yeah MSAA is just a massive framerate killer in games and is not something I usually even attempt to use.

and I am getting about 50-55 fps at 1920x1080 on Ultra with no AA with just my modest 660ti.

yes and my card is oced too. maybe it was just the place they tested at.

Yes that can be the real factor, and also their testing CPU is 3960x.Not really sure if this game is CPU bottleneck though.Otherwise in gaming,2500k is very close to 3960x.

7970 GE is faster than 680 as expected. But dial up the AA settings and all of a sudden 680 takes the front seat.

Ya, but at those settings both are unplayable. Go back to 4xMSAA and HD7970GE is leading by 12%, while HD7950 800mhz is outperforming the 670. GTX680 costs $450 and is only 5 fps faster than an 800mhz 7950. The Titan costs $590 more and is only 27% faster than the 7970GE. GTX480 despite costing $500 is just 2 fps faster than $370 5870 that came out 6 months earlier. This title isn't putting NV in a good light, that's for sure.

HD7970GE is 85% faster than HD6970. GCN is consistently performing well in newer titles.

$470 GTX680 competes with a $410 HD7970GE not HD7970, and loses in this title. This is not May 2012.

I got to get this game and see how tough it is to run...

FC3 isn't that tough to run @ 1080P Max settings with 8X MSAA - with vsync 59-60 FPS pretty much all of the time. Unless I am missing a setting somewhere?

@RS you missed my point.I posted the benchmark because it is weird in a sense. My question was how can 7970Ghz lose to 680 while we dial up the AA? we have evidence where the contrary is the norm.So in a way just having more memory bandwidth doesn't help with high AA at all.It proves that GCN isn't very efficient at handling this game.

The fact that HD7970GE generally runs games better with 8xMSAA than 680 and it beats GTX680 at 4xMSAA makes me think a driver issue is at play with 8xMSAA in this title. It doesn't matter in this case since both cards are completely unplayable with 8xMSAA in this title. To say that GCN isnt' "very efficient" at handling this game is misleading don't you think since it wins in almost all other scenarios like 0xAA and 4xMSAA at 1080P and 1600P. The outlier is 8xMSAA.

Yes I think it is valid, because GCN should show it's raw strength more prominently when we enable higher AA modes compared to Kepler.

1. The game is unplayable on either brand's sub-$500 cards with 8xMSAA
2. Based on the fact that HD7970GE beats GTX680 in all other scenarios excluding 8xMSAA, and in many games with 8xMSAA, it could be a driver issue.

The more interesting question is not why HD7970/GE has an outlier issue with 8xMSAA but why does the Titan fall apart at 2560x1600 with 4xMSAA considering it costs $1,000?

$1000 card that's only 6 fps or 18% faster than a $410 card.

RS it is a GE title so it better not have driver issues with AMD hardware.Did AMD ever confirm there is a driver issue with game, I don't remember? enable 8X MSAA @1080P and Titan is ~50% faster. It seems Titan flexes it's muscle more when we enable higher AA modes.
