Hi guys,
Just wanted to ask...

Would I be able to run the following specs with my current PSUnit

E8400 Core 2 Duo Wolfdale 3.0ghz 45nm Processor
OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4GB DDR2 800 RAM
MSI P43 Neo3-F Mobo
or the MSI P45 Neo-F Mobo
Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit
BFG MaxCore GTX 260 Core 216 OC
250gb 7500rpm Seagate Barricuda SATA
Toshiba Super Multi DVD+-R/RW/RAM
Sony CD-R/RW 52x/32x/52x
Antec TPII-550w

My main concern again, is would I be able to run all of that with the PSUnit being the Antec TruePower 2.0 550w

Thanks for all your help guys!!! I'm excited for X Mas for this new system :D

I don't see why not.
Those parts together would probably pull close to 350w under load.

Your link doesn't work. You need to take the ellipsis (...) out of it.

My only concern with the PSU would be the quality problems Antec had with some of their older units.

^ sorry bout the link

problems as in?? This thing's been in for a few months over a year, and I've not really had any problems, the only problems I've had are nv4_disp.dll BSOD's but that's due to drivers, and what not, and a corrupt hard drive that I replaced. Also not being able to run Vista, but that's a motherboard compatability problem with the ASUS A8n32-SLI deluxe so that's not the PSU either hehe

Would it be a good idea then, to run that setup with the power supply??

I read that the GTX 260 requires a minimum of 36 amps across the rail?? The 550W Antec TPII has 2 12+V rails, each operating at something like 18amps...would I be able to run it still, or would my computer go -ExPLoSiOn-?

LOL, we need onomatapoeic sound effects for that: *bOOm*.

A standard TP2 should be fine (hopefully it's not too old & tired). Remember that the official guidelines are based on a high-end system with maxed out hardware. If your system won't POST after install, it's simply a case of the PSU not having enough juice, no harm done.

i lean more to the 4 rail psu's >.> but atm a psu isn't in the budget, which is why I was asking if it'd run it :X

if it comes to it the GTX 260 will just have to be put off, and I'll run with my current graphics card.

Older Antecs had capacitor problems leaving them prone to sudden failures, occasionally blaze of glory type failures. I believe both the TruePower 2.0 and SmartPower 2.0 lines suffered from the problem.

Blaze of Glory...so my computer could go -ExPLoSiOn- daz not guud! lololol that's REALLY not good. Hmm...I took a look as well, and damn that GTX 260 is huge, it will barely fit in my Antec P180 but by God it will fit! :D

I'll make sure and keep a extinguisher handy...:S don't want muh stuff to p00f into smoke.

This'll also be my first time making a completely new computer...i've never installed a cpu so I'm kind of nervous bout it...>_> like what if I break it :x damn so many things can go wrong...but I'm still excited! :D be gaming high-tech...also thinking instead of the MSI going with a Gigabyte P45 so I'm not stuck with a downgraded P45 in the MSI P43...P45 looks good :)

also I'm now looking at running 4x2GB 8GB of OCZ Gold Ed. DDR2 800....would that be a problem for the PSU?

It really depends on the current state of those Fuhjyyu caps in that TP2.

RAM is not an issue for a power supply. It just doesn't take much to run. However, generally speaking I would avoid OCZ RAM.

I have OCZ RAM, 2x1GB sticks in right now, Platinum Ed. though I'm running DDR2 400 (PC 3200) and they work like a beauty, and quite a few of my own clannies run it as well, why do you say to stay away?
