GPU Problem

I recently purchased a 7900gt and did a 1.55v volt mod to it. A little before the vmod though, I installed a Zalman VF-900 Cu on it, expecting results similar to the "Unlocking the Beast" article that I'm sure everybody has heard of.

The article has their card OCd higher than mine with more voltage and yet my idle temps are still 2 degrees higher than theres with my load temps soaring to 20 degrees higher! And this is with .15 lower volts and 100 mhz on the core lower!

Why are my results so poor comparatively? Sure, my room temp may be higher, but I doubt it would account for THAT much of a difference.

My comp has 2 120mm case fans, one intake in the front, 1 exhaust in the rear. Also, I have a CNPS-9500 on the CPU pushing air towards the rear exhaust as well as my PSU fans pumping warm air out.

Beyond that though, I'm also unable to push my memory anywhere near the numbers that this article was getting.

I am unable to run oblivion with an 1800 mhz memory clock whereas the article posted stable, totally artifact free (though Oblivion results weren't posted) with a mem clock of 1830 mhz and a core clock of 745. I can't even get my card to show no artifacts over 690/1750 with ATI tool.

Anybody have any clue what's going on here? I havn't tested my volt mod to make sure it's pushing 1.55v but I did the mods exactly as described by another article I read.

Thanks for any help!

1, they had no case, 2 room temps.
3 air flow when you are out side of case >>>> cramped inside a case.

all these things factor in as well as quality of seating heat sink...

comparing temps is like comparing dogs... you can feed them all the same things but there will always be heavier and light ones

It's not JUST comparing temps though. They also had stable clocks over 50 mhz higher on the core and 80mhz higher on the memory with .05 volts less. Does this make sense?

Yes, because other components are also causing heat inside your case. Have an exhaust fan take hot air away from vid card and another 120 mm (Scythe Kama Bay or mod in yourself) intake in drive bays to provide more air to that Zalman.

Variables my friend, starting with...

They got luckier than you...

or...

has a better power supply or lower room temp or even lower humidity or better case cooling etc.
