Do GPUs have good matrix functionalities? Do you think I could write code for scientific computing to take advantage of this? I have a machine with excellent GeForce something-or-another graphics, but I never use the graphics capabilities. Have people used the GPU processing power for non-graphics operations? How well have they fared?

Well if you look on that site, there is a paper about LU factorization (following the LAPACK model) written by a group at UNC-CH. It caught my eye yesterday and I'm also interested in this topic now...

Google is your friend.

Has anyone here used this? When I post for this sort of stuff, I want to know your personal take on it. I want to know if you yourself have tried it. Perhaps this is the wrong forum for anecdotal advice?

I have not personally used it, but you asked a very vague question (as well as in your other thread). There is a lot of information out there on this topic -- far more than anyone here could probably provide.

Asking 'has anyone used a GPU do to non-3D-rendering calculations?' is not a highly technical question (and implies that you were too lazy to even use something like Google to try to find basic information on this topic, hence my reply). If you want to know more about that specific project/package, you should post in Software or ask over at their forums. If you have more detailed/technical questions about this topic, I would be happy to try to answer them, but this forum is not a general research service. :p
