GPU for i3; i3 IGP=? HD XXXX

I am building a new rig with i3 530 processor, GA-H55M-UD2H mobo, 4 gigs RAM and Dell ST2220L. I would like to know whether the Intel IGP HD graphics would be able to play Crysis at decent settings. If not I would like to add a HD 4670. My doubt is there any increase in performance compared to Core IGP graphics. Actually the Intel i3 is equivalent to what HD XXXX. Because if the Intel graphics plays the games somewhat similar to HD 4670 then I can stick to i3 IGP and could save the money by not buying the GPU and dedicated PSU.

And what do you think about a HD 5670 along with the above config..

Thanx in advance.

The i3 IGP will barely run Crysis, if at all. A 4670 is much, much faster. The i3 IGP is roughly equal to the lowest end dedicated HD card - probably the HD 2400.

You can see a comparison here:

The AMD 790GX is using an integrated HD 3300 (or maybe 3200).

You will need a dedicated card to run Crysis at decent settings. A 4670 is capable enough to do that, but there are other cards that can too since the 4670 is a bit older and has been replaced.

The i3 530 IGP doesn't even equal the HD 5450 as far as gaming performance goes, and Crysis is very GPU-bound in performance. With a 5670 on that setup, IF you're managing a playable framerate on "high" settings with the monitor's native 1080p, it will be only barely. Can't emphasize IF enough.

So crysis+Intel i3 IGP is not that playable. If I go with a HD 4670, at what resolution and settings would I be able to play Crysis. What would be the difference in fps b/w HD 4670 & HD 5670. Is the price diff worth it???

If money's getting dropped on an i3 with a $100+ dollar board, probably better to know the whole budget. More performance could probably be muscled out of an AMD-based build.

Crysis + Intel IGP = not playable, that much I can tell you. Well, it may be playable if you can stand sub-20 framerate.

Here are some 5670 and 4670 benchmarks:

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/sapphire_hd5670_1gb/8.htm

In summary: You won't be running at High or Ultra settings. Mainstream or Medium settings are what you should expect. However you can tweak Crysis to your liking to find a nice balance between medium and high and various resolutions.

The 5670 is a good bit faster than a 4670. In these Crysis tests they show the 5670 being about 30% faster than a 4670.

make it easy, tell us the resolution your wanna play at, and your budget for the card.
Before throwing out newegg links you better find out where he lives. And he told you the monitor. It's a Dell and it's 1080p...

Infact I am not a avid player and moreover this is my first rig. I just don't want to miss the fun once I start gaming. i almost zeroed on all the components except the GPU. AMD is also very VFM bt this time I want to restrict to the basic i3 processor and a GPU that would aloow me play FPS games at a decent and playable settings on the 22 inch Dell. Currently my budget is 4000 INR for a GPU. Can extend srtictly another 1000 if its really worth it. Thats what I asked for a HD 5670 opinion.

Okay if I go for HD 5670, do I need a seperate psu or can I stick to cabby(like CM Elite 310) with generic smps as thats gonna save me Rs. 2000 INR

Ya I know, and they would me more costly, the mobos very much. They too have the same IGP. The enhancement in IGP is only for the i5 2xxx series.
