Hi,
My PC was functional but the PSU was loud and the computer would only boot when it was laying on the side. I think the problem with the PC only booting when it was lying on its side was that the CPU heatsink was not screwed on tight enough, so it would come loose and prevent the CPU from being seating properly when the case was upright.
So I bought a new PSU and I tightened the screws around the heatsink. Now I'm not seeing any video output, no POST beeps, although the fans spin 🙁
Tried some experiments, at a loss right now:
- the 8-pin CPU power is connected
- the PCI-E power is connected to the GPU
- tried using the HDMI from the motherboard
- tried hooking up just the GPU and motherboard power
- went back to the old PSU
- took everything out of the case and put it back
- removed all RAM, no CPU beep
- reset CMOS w/ a jumper
I'm worried that the CPU or motherboard might have been damaged, but I'm not sure how to prove or disprove that theory.
