GPU fan(s) dying? Card out of warranty?

What did you do to fix your fans?

My XFX R9-280X used 90mm fans, so a common size 92mm case fan seemed a natural replacement choice. I just wished the fans I chose (due to the housing) spun faster, was hoping for a cooler card, but the temps are comparable to the factory fans.

I don't mind that it is a 3 slot card now. 😉

Is that a separate fan mounting system you've bought or is that what came with the card?

Nah I had to tear the card apart, yank out the factory fans, mark and drill holes for the new fans, etc. Not for the faint of heart. And since I'm a bit faint of heart when it comes to soldering, I decided to power the fans externally rather than tie into the microscopic, thinner than spider silk, power leads that come from the card itself.

Just replaced two fans on a Sapphire Tri-x. Needless to say the connectors did not match up so it was cut/splice/solder/tape/stuff........ you get the picture.
Never had a GPU fan go out before.
You do have to disassemble the various layers of the card to get to the fans. No comment on that..............:\
