Is it worth folding on a 4670 with DDR2? I remember trying folding on a HD2600 installed in a 3.06 dual core rig and it actually resulted in less output because it consumed so much CPU power.

Additionally, does anybody here fold on a GTX 260M? I am considering it but since it's a laptop heat is a concern. This P7908u laptop stays on the kitchen counter and is well ventilated, but I am somewhat concerned long term. The most work it generally sees is MLBtv.com so it's set for a long break until Spring arrives.
 
Unless you have a cooling pad for that laptop, I wouldn't try to run the laptop GPU without some sort of cooling. As for the 4670, I'd imagine you wouldn't have too much trouble with it, thought it's worth a shot, just to test it out.
 
It (the GTX 260M) must be worth a shot though, you can always get a cooling pad if needed. It will depend on atmospheric temperature too, and I wouldn't shut the laptop screen! Why not do a trial run while running Core Temp and GPU-Z to monitor temps closely?

If it is too hot you could always turn the % GPU/CPU time used down from 100 to a point where temps are manageable, thereby at least completing WUs, just a little slower.

As far as the laptop goes, the screen is always up so that shouldn't be a problem. I've considered a laptop cooler already but it seems to be a mixed bag as to what works, sort of works, and is considered to be junk.

What cooling pad would you recommend for a 17" laptop?

I'm not sure, I've never looked at laptop coolers before, but this link might give you something to go by: Top Ten Laptop Coolers

If it were me I would honestly just buy a couple of 120mm fans, strip off the wires of an AC/DC converter (anything from about 5v-13v) to power it and stick them under the laptop. Use your imagination to allow cool air to get under the fans (duct tape? cardboard? sticks?)...job done for under £10! and it would probably perform better than a proper laptop cooler too. Not very portable though, I'll admit...

If its still too hot, move it nearer to an open window if you're in the northern hemisphere 😉
Edit: but not if you're on the ground floor!!

I did some research after my post and decided on the Zalman 2000 that receives such high praise. Now just waiting for Christmas to get it.
 
About your GTX260m.

I fold on it right now and get about 4800ppd at 600mhz core and 1600 shader. I use custom bios btw.

I removed the bottom panel and I am getting about 82*C at load when folding, which is more than fine as this card starts it's throttling at 107*C

Read this guide which is a great optimization. Don't worry that it is ASUS, most parts are identical with their own brand name.
